Kluivert's sad record

Coach Patrick Kluivert ended his short time leading the Indonesian team at noon on October 16.

Kluivert was appointed by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) in early 2025 with the goal of taking the national team to the 2026 World Cup. However, due to the unsatisfactory performance and failure in the qualifying campaign, the contract between the two sides was terminated early.

With this decision, Kluivert became the coach with the shortest tenure in the Indonesian national team, since FIFA lifted the ban on Indonesian football in 2016. Despite signing a two-year contract (from 2025 to 2027), Kluivert only had 9 months in charge of the Indonesian national team.

Before Kluivert, coach Shin Tae-yong led the Indonesian teams from January 2020 to January 2025. Mr. Shin is also the coach with the longest tenure in the past 10 years.

Previously, coach Luis Milla had 22 months leading the Indonesian team from January 2017 to October 2018. Simon McMenemy, a familiar face in Indonesian football, also led the team from January to November 2019.

Although the decision to fire Kluivert was widely supported by fans, many people still questioned who would replace the former Dutch player to lead the team in the coming period. In the announcement, PSSI did not announce the identity of the interim coach, making the public even more curious.
