Promoting the role of collective economy and cooperatives

Chiang Mai currently has 18 cooperatives with over 200 members, operating in the fields of agriculture, services, agricultural processing and livestock. Many cooperatives have proactively innovated their operations, linked with businesses and researchers, and produced high-quality agricultural products to meet market demand.

Visiting the Phieng Quai Village Agricultural Service Tourism Cooperative, the atmosphere of enthusiastic work on lush green coffee gardens, intercropped with longan trees in the harvest season. The Cooperative was established in 2022, currently has 14 members, planting 40 hectares of coffee trees, intercropped with longan trees and 3.5 hectares of dragon fruit. In 2024, the Cooperative's coffee output will reach 800 tons of fresh fruit; 200 tons of longan; 150 tons of dragon fruit, which are stably consumed in major supermarkets in Hanoi and wholesale markets. The Cooperative's revenue will reach over 18.5 billion VND, with each member earning an average of 1 - 1.5 billion VND/year.

Mr. Hoang Van Kien, a member of the Phieng Quai Village Agricultural Service Tourism Cooperative, shared: His family grows 2.5 hectares of coffee mixed with longan and 8,000 square meters of dragon fruit. Thanks to proper care, the plants yield high yields and beautiful fruit. Each year, they harvest about 40 tons of coffee; 10 tons of longan; 35 tons of dragon fruit, with a total income of more than 1.3 billion VND. During the season, his family also creates jobs for 3-4 local workers, earning 300-500 thousand VND/day.

As for the Sang Na Tre Agricultural Cooperative, with the support of the local government, its members actively participate in technical training and learn from many effective models inside and outside the commune. The Cooperative has 18 members, grows 30 hectares of clean coffee, fertilizes entirely with organic fertilizers and only harvests ripe fruit. Revenue is nearly 8 billion VND/year, with each member's income ranging from 400-600 million VND.

Mr. Cam Van Hoang, Director of Sang Na Tre Agricultural Cooperative, said: The Cooperative is developing OCOP coffee products, focusing on perfecting safe production processes, tracing origins, investing in processing, packaging, and packaging design. At the same time, the Cooperative is promoting, expanding the market and building brands, affirming the position of local coffee.

Developing sustainable agriculture, Chieng Mai commune encourages people to join together to establish cooperatives, produce according to safe processes, VietGAP, organic products associated with product consumption, increase the value of agricultural products, create jobs and promote the local economy . Every year, the commune coordinates to organize technical training courses for cooperative members and farmers; supports the building of collective brands; creates conditions for participation in fairs and exhibitions to introduce products. At the same time, integrates resources from the new rural construction program to upgrade intra-field roads and canals, expand production and facilitate the consumption of agricultural products.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Son, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: In the coming time, the commune will focus on supporting cooperatives and enterprises in technical standards, VietGAP training, building safe production areas; encouraging new cooperative models; supporting trade promotion and market expansion; aiming to build green, sustainable, branded agricultural production cooperatives, meeting domestic demand and gradually reaching out to export.
