Further promote the development of sports cooperation between Vietnam and China

On the afternoon of October 16, in Hanoi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Li Jing, Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Sports of China.

Sending greetings to Deputy Director General Li Jing, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that the bilateral meeting between the two Ministries demonstrated the traditional friendship and brotherhood that is worthy of respect.

Emphasizing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that the two countries share a common perception, built by the Party and State leaders and supported by the people, of a long-term, stable friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and a future-oriented relationship.

Overview of the bilateral meeting

On behalf of the Chinese Sports Ministry delegation, expressing gratitude to Minister Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Director General Li Jing said that 2025 is also the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, and affirmed that the Chinese delegation attending AMMS 8 demonstrates the friendship between the two countries "connected by rivers and mountains".

Recalling the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping last April, Deputy Director General Li Jing emphasized that the leaders of the two countries have reached many consensuses and signed many important documents in promoting and building the people-to-people community on both sides.

"We hope that the two sides can continue to reach important consensus in sports development, contributing to accelerating the building of the two countries' people's community to bring better things to the people," said Deputy Director General Li Jing.

Pleased to inform Minister Nguyen Van Hung about the 15th National Sports Congress of China to take place this coming November, Deputy Director General Li Jing said that the delegation of the Vietnam Sports Administration led by Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet will attend the opening ceremony.

At the meeting, Deputy Director General Li Jing also expressed his hope that Vietnam and China would resume the rotation mechanism, sending delegations to work and learn from each other every year. The rotation mechanism was maintained between the two sides before being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The two sides agreed to further promote and develop sports cooperation between Vietnam and China.

"Through exchanges in the field of sports, promoting national people-to-people relations will reach new heights. Under the support of the Party and State leaders, exchanges and cooperation will have deeper and better developments, opening up more specific directions for cooperation" - Deputy Director General Li Jing affirmed.

Appreciating the opinions and proposals of Deputy Director General Li Jing, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that because of the special relationship between the two countries, on a general level, cooperation between the two countries has achieved great achievements, including in sports.

Reviewing China's training support for Vietnamese sports in recent times in some strong sports such as Wushu, Gymnastics, Archery..., the Minister said that this has helped improve the achievements of Vietnamese sports in the international arena.

"We are very excited that Chinese sports are increasingly gaining a position in the world. Especially recent activities when China hosted continental and world events. This further affirms China's position in the role of sports in Asia and in the global development trend" - the Minister emphasized.

Regarding the issue of restoring the rotation mechanism, the Minister assigned the Department of International Cooperation and the Vietnam Sports Administration to coordinate with units of the General Administration of Sports of China to develop a plan and move towards annual organization.

The Minister also assigned the Vietnam Sports Administration to work with specialized departments of the General Administration of Sports of China in comprehensive cooperation, deeper development of sports in a substantive manner, from small to large scale, from easy to difficult.

The Minister also asked the host country to share its experience in sports health care, especially in scientific research, to contribute to taking care of the health of the people and national athletes, creating a premise to help Vietnamese sports go further in the international arena.
