Ban Chua village is located in the western mountainous region of Quang Tri province. The people's lives mainly depend on slash-and-burn farming, and infrastructure here is still lacking. Clean water has long been the people's greatest wish. For many years, the source of domestic water has relied only on streams and rainwater, posing a potential risk of unsanitary conditions and affecting health. In the dry season, the stream dries up, and people have to travel several kilometers to carry water home.

Mr. Ho Van Loi, a resident of Ban Chua, could not hide his emotion and said: “My whole life has been spent on the fields and carrying water. During the dry season, water is scarce, people have to go far to carry cans of water, and during the rainy season, the water from the streams is murky and unsanitary. Now that there are wells and tanks, water flows to the village, we are very excited.”

These days, around the reservoir area, children are playing innocently, happily turning on the tap for clear water. The clear smiles on their faces are the clearest proof of the happiness that the clean water project brings. Women take advantage of the time to do laundry and wash vegetables near their homes, instead of having to go out to fetch water like before.

The “Clean water for the community” project in Ban Chua includes 2 wells, 2 pumps, 2 tanks, a common living area for residents, and solar lights. The project was solidly built with the joint efforts of officers and soldiers of Division 968 and the support of units and businesses.

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Bac, Chairman of Hieu Giang Commune People's Committee, commented: "This is the most practical project for the people. Previously, the commune had proposed it many times but the funding conditions were limited. The cooperation of the unit has helped solve the most urgent needs. We will coordinate with the people to preserve and maintain the project so that it can serve for a long time."

It is known that the "Clean water for the community" project is one of the key contents in the coordination program to implement the Project "Improving the quality and effectiveness of mass mobilization work of the Military Region 4 in special areas in the Military Region for the period 2023-2030 and the following years". Colonel Dang Quyet Thang, Political Commissar of Division 968 said: "For us, building a clean water project is not only about helping people have water but also about the responsibility and affection of the soldiers towards the people. We hope that the project will contribute to improving health, improving life, and creating more motivation for people to stay in their villages and develop their homeland".

Clean water coming to Ban Chua not only cools down the dry days but also helps the lives of the Van Kieu people in this mountainous land with many difficulties to become better and more prosperous.
