First international customs technology exhibition in Vietnam

On the morning of October 10, at the National Convention Center (Hanoi), the World Customs Organization (WCO) in coordination with Vietnam Customs opened the WCO's 2023 customs technology conference and exhibition (hosted by Vietnam).

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang speaks at the opening ceremony

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang highly appreciated the cooperation and support of the WCO and customs authorities of other countries for Vietnam Customs in the 30 years since Vietnam Customs became an official member of the WCO.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that the theme of the conference, "Welcoming the digital era: applying technology, promoting innovation and nurturing the next generation of professional customs officers", reflected the general trend of the world, in line with the development priorities of Vietnam Customs.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the control and prevention of smuggling, trade fraud and tax losses are currently facing many challenges. Vietnam Customs has a role in supporting the healthy development of the economy , facilitating investment attraction, trade and tourism, ensuring social order and safety, and enhancing national competitiveness. Therefore, Vietnam Customs needs to be a pioneer in promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang visited the international customs technology exhibition area on the sidelines of the conference on the morning of October 10.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to promote international cooperation on customs in a deep and effective manner; develop relations with bilateral and multilateral customs partners, seriously implement agreements, cooperation programs and commitments with international partners; and promote the internalization of international commitments in line with the domestic legal system.

Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the WCO, delivered the opening remarks.

According to the General Department of Customs, the 2023 International Customs Technology Conference and Exhibition is a major international event of the WCO and the largest international event ever for Vietnam Customs.

Director General of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can said that hosting this event is an opportunity for Vietnam Customs to cooperate with customs authorities of other countries, international organizations, and leading technology enterprises. The conference was held on Vietnam's "Digital Transformation" day (October 10), conveying the message of digital transformation and technology application in the customs sector and trade facilitation.

The exhibition on customs technology within the framework of this event will take place until October 12 in Hanoi.
