The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) has just announced sales figures for the past September. Accordingly, in September 2025, VAMA members sold 30,688 vehicles to domestic consumers, an increase of 18.1%. Of the above figures, there were 20,559 passenger cars, 9,535 commercial vehicles and 594 special-purpose vehicles. Compared to August 2025, sales of passenger cars increased by 19%; commercial vehicles increased by 14%; and special-purpose vehicles increased by 97%.

In addition, sales of domestically assembled cars reached 14,427 units, up 14% compared to the previous month. The corresponding figure for imported cars was 16,261 units, up 22%. Although the Vietnamese car market grew significantly in September 2025, some familiar names still appeared in the list of the worst-selling car models on the market.

Ford Explorer: 1 car sales
In September, Ford only sold 1 Explorer to Vietnamese people. With this result, Ford's large SUV topped the top 10 worst-selling cars in the Vietnamese market along with Honda Civic Type R. The Ford Explorer's appearance in this top 10 is not surprising because the car has been discontinued in the Vietnamese market.

Honda Civic Type R: 1 car
Similar to the Ford Explorer, the Honda Civic Type R also only had sales of exactly 1 unit last September. However, unlike the Ford SUV, the high-performance version of the Honda Civic was not discontinued in Vietnam. Instead, this model is sold in Vietnam by order and has a selling price of up to 2.999 billion VND.

Toyota Innova: 4 cars
Ranking in second place in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the Vietnamese market is the Toyota Innova. This model sold only 4 units last September. Like the Ford Explorer, the Toyota Innova has now been discontinued in the Vietnamese market. Toyota Vietnam said that the Innova is out of stock and will be discontinued because the company "changed its product strategy".

Honda Accord: 5 cars
Accord is a very familiar face and indispensable in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market for a long time. High selling price (starting from 1.319 billion VND), combined with only 1 version, design and equipment that have not been upgraded for a long time have pushed Accord to the bottom of the market. In addition, there is the decline of the D-class sedan segment due to the change in Vietnamese consumers' tastes.

Suzuki Jimny: 13 cars
Suzuki Jimny is also a name that has been in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the Vietnamese market many times, and September 2025 is no exception. Last month, the car only sold 13 units, ranking 4th in the entire market from the bottom up. Suzuki Jimny has many factors such as being picky about customers, small size and limited supply because it is imported completely from Japan.

Ford Mustang Mach-E: 13 cars
Joining the 4th position in the top 10 with Suzuki Jimny is the Ford Mustang Mach-E. This is the first time this electric car model has appeared in the top worst-selling cars on the market. Launched in Vietnam on August 15, 2025, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a fully imported electric car with a starting price of up to 2.599 billion VND.

Isuzu mu-X: 15 cars
The next model to appear in the list of slow-selling cars this September is the Isuzu mu-X - another veteran. This mid-size SUV sold only 15 units last September. The reason why the Isuzu mu-X is often named in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market is because of its picky design and the brand is mainly associated with trucks, even though the car has a quite attractive selling price in the segment.
9-93.jpg
Toyota Corolla Altis: 17 cars
Toyota Corolla Altis once again appeared in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market with modest sales of only 17 units. Thus, Toyota's car model once again "ranked last" in terms of sales in the C-class sedan segment. Like mid-range sedans, C-class sedans are no longer popular in Vietnam.
10-4543.jpg
Kia Soluto: 18 cars
Kia Soluto sold only 18 units, the lowest in the B-class sedan segment in Vietnam. B-class sedans are still very popular in Vietnam. However, Kia Soluto cannot take advantage of this because its design and equipment are inferior to competitors such as Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent or Honda City.
11-3606.jpg
Kia K5: 19 cars
The Kia K5 had only 19 Vietnamese customers ordering in September 2025. Compared to the Honda Accord and the "king of the segment" Toyota Camry, the Kia K5 has a much more attractive selling price, only from 859 - 999 million VND. However, it seems that the shadow of the Toyota Camry in the eyes of customers in this segment is too big, making the K5 have no chance to rise.
