Japan has a long history of hosting important Olympic Council of Asia events, including the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, three Asian Winter Games in Sapporo – 1986, 1990 and 2017 – and the 2003 Asian Winter Games in Aomori. With this proud record, the Olympic Council of Asia is confident that the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will be safe, especially in terms of services and media activities.
At this event, the host Organizing Committee highlighted important figures and milestones including:
- 45 Asian National Olympic Committees participated
- 15,000 athletes and team officials
- 41 sports, 68 events, 460 events
- 53 competition venues - 80% within 50 km of the main Media Centre
- 60 test events before the Congress
- Register by Name (Athlete): August 2026
- The games will start with basketball and end with sport climbing.
At the World Broadcasting Conference, key milestones for broadcasters covering the 20th Asian Games were also announced:
-October 2025: Distribute media accreditation registration packages to TV stations.
- November 20, 2025: Open recognition system - start accepting registrations.
- April 16, 2026: Accreditation deadline for broadcasters.
-April-May 2026: Broadcasters must verify, sign and return accreditation status reports.
-From June 2026: Production and distribution of PVC cards (temporary cards)
- July 31, 2026: Visa exemption period begins, PVC card and AG card can be used as visa exemption documents to enter Japan.
When the participant presents the PVC or AG card together with a valid passport (or equivalent travel document), the card will be valid as a visa exemption certificate for entry into Japan and can be used multiple times from July 31, 2026 – October 19, 2026, for a maximum stay of 90 days.
With just over 300 days to go until the 20th Asian Games, the Organizing Committee expressed its appreciation for the feedback from press and television representatives in creating stories that resonated across Asia and the world during the Games.
At the same press conference, the Olympic Council of Asia announced to more than 100 media agencies from international and local news agencies, leading Japanese newspapers, as well as representatives of several Asian National Olympic Committees attending the first world press conference on the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games a busy sports schedule for the next 12 months.
“The organisation has a very busy schedule this year, including the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in two weeks, the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China in April, and most importantly, the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026,” said Jeans Zhou Jian, Director of Communications and Broadcasting of the Olympic Council of Asia.
