Exciting traditional river racing on Loi Nong river

(Fatherland) - The traditional racing tournament of Huong Thuy town (Thua Thien Hue province) held on the occasion of the New Year of Giap Thin 2024 attracted the attention of thousands of people to compete and cheer.

On February 18 (the 9th day of the first lunar month), on Loi Nong River, passing through Thuy Phuong Ward, Huong Thuy Town ( Thua Thien Hue Province), the 11th Traditional Boat Race of Huong Thuy Town - 2024 took place.

Ms. Ngo Thi Ai Huong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Huong Thuy Town, said that in addition to the meaning of praying for favorable weather, bountiful crops, and a peaceful homeland, maintaining the organization of the race also aims to preserve and spread the traditional sport of the locality.

According to the Organizing Committee, after a long time of being held on Vuc River and once on Nhu Y River, this year for the first time the traditional local boat race was held on Loi Nong River.

The tournament gathered nearly 400 athletes from 9 racing teams: Thuy Duong, Thuy Phuong, Thuy Thanh, Thuy Chau, Thuy Luong, Thuy Tan, Phu Bai, Thuy Phu and Duong Hoa.

In the tournament, the teams compete in 1 offering, 1 breaking and 7 money levels; in which, the offering and breaking levels compete in 3 rounds of 6 shuffles, the money levels compete in 2 rounds of 4 shuffles.

Thousands of people were present, standing on both sides of the river to cheer on the racing teams.

In racing, "flipping" is an attractive part. The racing team that performs well in this part will have a huge advantage in the final result.

The Organizing Committee awarded prizes to racing teams with high achievements in the tournament.

The traditional racing competition organized by the People's Committee of Huong Thuy Town at the beginning of the new year created a joyful and exciting atmosphere, contributing to building solidarity among localities in the area.
