Academic strength and global appeal

With a history of nearly 200 years, the University of London is known as an “ educational phenomenon” with global influence. The student community of the University of London is up to more than 45,000 students worldwide, exceeding the population of Monaco.

The academic reputation of the University of London is affirmed through 17 prestigious member schools, including the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - ranked 6th in the world for Social Sciences & Management - according to the QS 2024 rankings, or other prestigious leading member schools such as University College London, King's College London, and Imperial College London.

This "super university" possesses tremendous academic power, training more than 50 outstanding Nobel Prize winners, dozens of heads of state, and countless leaders in all fields.

Despite its appeal, the University of London has never been an easy academic destination to get into. Member colleges like LSE typically require A-level grades AAA or equivalent, along with a minimum IELTS score of 7.0-7.5. For more challenging programs like Economics at LSE, acceptance rates range from just 5-10%.

Applicants are typically required to have a grade point average in the top tier of their class/school, or to have achieved the equivalent of a UK First-Class Honours degree. Applicants are not only competing with the best in the UK, but also with the best applications from over 190 countries around the world.

The high cost of studying is also a barrier. International tuition fees at University of London member schools range from £22,000-£38,000/year, equivalent to about 682 million - 1.18 billion VND/year, depending on the major, not to mention the cost of living in London up to £15,000-£18,000/year, equivalent to about 465 million - 558 million VND/year). The total cost of 3 years of study can exceed £150,000 (nearly 5 billion VND), a figure beyond the reach of many families.

A single standard of academic quality

In Vietnam, British University Vietnam (BUV) has quickly established a partnership to become a distance learning partner of the University of London. Thanks to this, many Vietnamese students have been able to achieve their dream of studying at the University of London right in their home country.

Accordingly, the University of London provides the "software" - including the curriculum, academic standards, learning materials and assessment processes developed by its prestigious member schools. BUV provides the "hardware" - 5-star facilities, 100% globally qualified lecturers, exclusive student support services, and many other comprehensive learning services.

The Chancellor of the University of London - Professor Wendy Thomson expressed her impression of the campus and facilities at BUV. “I have had the opportunity to visit many universities around the world and few places can compare to what BUV possesses. Studying the University of London program at BUV will be a profitable investment for students,” she affirmed.

The prestige of a University of London degree awarded at BUV is guaranteed by a rigorous quality assurance system. These criteria cover all aspects of a university’s operations. The most important factor in ensuring quality is that the University of London is solely responsible for academic direction, program design, course material development, exam planning and marking.

For example, the Economics, Management, Finance and Social Sciences programmes at BUV receive academic direction from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). This close control ensures that the academic standards at BUV in Vietnam are fully equivalent to those in London.

“Students at BUV study the same curriculum and lectures compiled by LSE, ensuring relevance, standards and difficulty equivalent to students at the University of London in the UK,” said Mr. Mark Harris - Head of Business Program (University of London Degree) at BUV.

“The University of London accredited training centres provide a highly supportive environment for local students, while maintaining the University of London's renowned high academic standards,” Professor Phil Allmendinger, Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, emphasized.

The quality of these distance learning programs has been vividly demonstrated. Notably, the leader Nelson Mandela and at least 7 other Nobel Prize-winning scientists have studied this program. At BUV, many students have ranked at the top of the University of London's global exam score rankings.

Double benefits from two international schools

Le Hong Anh - a student of BUV's Bachelor of Finance Program - said that one of the secrets to achieving first place in the global final course of the IFP - University of London Foundation Program is the direct 1:1 support from teachers at BUV.

In fact, class sizes at BUV are typically significantly smaller than at the University of London, which is famous for its halls filled with hundreds of students. This allows BUV lecturers to pay closer attention to each student, allowing students to understand the material more deeply and develop better study discipline.

In addition to saving more than 2/3 compared to studying abroad directly, students also have a "bright chance" to receive more scholarship packages at BUV. Based on the huge number of students, the rate of receiving a direct scholarship from the University of London can be less than 1% for the most prestigious packages.

At BUV, students are fully entitled to the opportunity from the general scholarship fund of the whole school. BUV does not discriminate against circumstances and economic conditions, but prioritizes awarding the right scholarships to the most deserving talents in each category, creating a scholarship fund with the most influence among the group of international schools in Vietnam.

Removing the employment barrier that applies to student visas in the UK, University of London students at BUV benefit from a network of more than 500 domestic and international business partners. Statistics show that the rate of University of London students at BUV having quality employment, or continuing to further study within 3 months of graduation, is 100%.

In addition to completing the entire program in Vietnam, BUV students can also open the door to study abroad at more than 70 prestigious universities in 17 countries on 5 continents. This list ranges from many schools in the Russell Group - a group of 24 leading research universities in the UK - to Triple Crown business schools, which account for only about 1% of global business schools.

In particular, every year the London School of Economics and Political Science also awards two full summer tuition scholarships to outstanding students studying the University of London program at BUV, creating opportunities to directly experience the top academic environment and connect with international friends.

“The University of London program at BUV benefits both sides. The renowned academic quality of the University of London, and the 5-star accredited learning environment of BUV. This is clearly demonstrated through the community of excellent University of London students and alumni over the years at BUV, and the increasingly close cooperation between the two schools,” said Professor Rick Bennett - Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of BUV.

Currently, BUV is still the only unit authorized to teach and award degrees from the University of London in Vietnam. Impressed by BUV's capacity, in 2025, the University of London officially elevated BUV to become a Global Partner University, a rare title in the network.

Professor Wendy Thomson, Principal of the University of London, emphasized: “This title is a testament to our long-term commitment to working closely with British University Vietnam, constantly developing the partnership and working towards the common goal of educational excellence.”

British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first university in Vietnam to receive a 5-star rating from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), and the first university in Vietnam and ASEAN to receive global quality accreditation from QAA, the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. These are two of the most prestigious accreditation bodies in the world. BUV's curriculum is well-designed, always updated with the latest industry trends, focusing on seamlessly integrating theory and practice, ensuring that 100% of students have jobs or continue their studies within three months of graduation.
