According to Mr. Pham Hong Khanh, Head of Truong Son Forest Protection Department, after a long period of heavy rain in the area, a strange bird flew into the garden of Mr. Vo Xuan Quoc, in Long Son village, Truong Son commune, Quang Tri province.

Realizing that this was a rare bird, on October 13, Mr. Quoc voluntarily reported it to the Forest Rangers, Police and People's Committee of Truong Son Commune. Upon verification, it was found that this was a Hornbill (Buceros bicornis), a species belonging to group IB in the list of endangered, precious and rare species issued with Circular No. 27/2025/TT-BNNMT, dated June 24, 2025 of the Minister of Agriculture and Environment regulating the management of endangered, precious and rare species; raising common wild animals and implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The aforementioned Hornbill is a large hornbill, currently weighing about 2kg.

On the same day, Truong Son Forest Protection Department coordinated with the People's Committee and Truong Son Commune Police to quickly complete procedures to hand over the Great Hornbill to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Creatures for care and rescue before releasing it back into the natural environment.

It is known that in addition to the Hornbill, Truong Son commune is also the habitat of many rare animals, such as: Siki gibbon, mountain goat, gaur, golden mountain turtle... Recently, Truong Son Forest Protection Department has coordinated with local authorities to strengthen propaganda and dissemination of laws on forest and wildlife protection, in order to raise people's awareness and prevent violations of the law related to the captivity and trade of wild animals.
