The factory has a total investment of nearly 5,000 billion VND, a scale of 6.28 hectares, and was started in March 2022 with the goal of applying modern technology to effectively treat household waste in the capital.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman of AMACCAO Group, said that on May 1, 2025, the factory began receiving and processing waste for the city; by early July, it officially generated commercial electricity. Up to now, the factory has been operating stably and continuously, effectively processing household waste for the city according to the project's objectives.
Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant has a capacity to process 2,250 tons of household waste per day and night, generating 37Mw of electricity per hour, using modern German waste-to-energy technology. The plant helps process approximately 1/3 of Hanoi's daily household waste with modern technology, helping to reduce the landfill rate by 97-98%.
In particular, emission indicators, exhaust gas, fine dust... at Seraphin all meet strict European standards EU2010. By-products of the treatment process are recycled and circulated to serve socio -economic development such as electricity generated to the national grid, ash and slag are used to produce precast concrete and unburnt bricks for construction.
Speaking here, Mr. Nguyen Trong Dong, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that handling household waste has long been a big challenge for urban areas, especially for a city of more than 8 million people like Hanoi.
“Every day, the city has to process over 7,600 tons of household waste - a huge amount that is putting pressure on infrastructure, the environment and people's quality of life,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Dong.
For many years, Hanoi has mainly treated waste by landfilling, which is both outdated and poses many risks of soil, water and air pollution. Therefore, switching to modern, circular and environmentally friendly treatment models is an urgent requirement and also an inevitable trend of the times.
“The Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant is the concrete solution to this difficult problem. With a capacity of 2,250 tons/day, the plant not only effectively processes waste but also generates 37 MW of clean electricity, enough to supply tens of thousands of households. This is a step forward from “waste” to “resource”, from “problem” to “value” - a vivid expression of the weekly economy”, the leader of the Hanoi People’s Committee added.
