PSSI must urgently find a replacement, coach Shin Tae-yong denies returning
The decision to fire coach Patrick Kluivert was made by PSSI at noon on October 16. The media in the archipelago assessed that this was an understandable action by PSSI when the Dutch coach could not help the Indonesian team to be present at the 2026 World Cup. In addition, coach Patrick Kluivert was also strongly opposed by Indonesian fans because of his ineffective defensive counter-attacking style of play, even though PSSI had tried to naturalize many new faces.
“The big question for Indonesian football is who will have the courage to become the head coach of the national team at this chaotic time,” wrote CNN Indonesia.
CNN Indonesia also commented: “After Shin Tae-yong was fired and his contract terminated on January 6, 2025, PSSI did not take much time. Within just six days, PSSI officially introduced Coach Kluivert. Mr. Shin's departure was carefully planned, but now, firing Coach Kluivert is against PSSI's plan, because they are facing too much pressure from fans.”

CNN Indonesia emphasized: “Some famous coaches have been mentioned, but they are just suggestions given by the media. As of the afternoon of October 16, there has been no rumor from PSSI headquarters about who will replace Coach Kluivert. Many names are said to have been considered, but perhaps only those closest to PSSI President Erick Thohir know. It is certain that PSSI will have to appoint a new coach soon because Indonesia will play an international friendly match in November. Jay Idzes and his teammates will hardly be able to play without a coach. In addition, the possibility of PSSI using an interim coach is entirely possible.”
Coach Patrick Kluivert was fired by the Indonesian Football Federation after failure in the World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, amid rumors of his return to lead the Indonesian national team, coach Shin Tae-yong said unexpectedly: "I want to clarify that the rumors about my reappointment as head coach of the Indonesian national team are completely false. Many people often downplay what I have done in Indonesia, but how can a team ranked 127th in the FIFA rankings beat Saudi Arabia and draw with Australia?"

Coach Patrick Kluivert received more than 8.8 billion VND in compensation
Since signing, Coach Patrick Kluivert has only worked with the Indonesian team for more than 10 months. In his coaching career, this is the second time the Dutch coach has been fired. Previously, when he was the coach of Adana Demirspor Club (Türkiye), Coach Patrick Kluivert was also fired after only 6 months of work.
Bola Times predicts the cost that coach Patrick Kluivert receives from PSSI: “According to the FIFA Football Court report, coach Kluivert received 150,000 euros (more than 4.5 billion VND) in compensation in 2024 against Adana Demirspor Club for being fired. This amount does not include the salary of 142,000 euros (more than 4.3 billion VND). The above salary and benefits are not much different in the agreement between PSSI and coach Kluivert because the two sides have a 2-year contract. Thus, after leaving the Indonesian team, Mr. Kluivert can receive a total amount of about 292,000 euros (more than 8.8 billion VND)”.
