On October 23, a source from Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just received and successfully treated a case of ectopic pregnancy in the ovary, even though the woman had an IUD inserted.

After surgery, the pregnant woman's health is stable.

Previously, Ms. NLNT (34 years old, living in Vinh Long province) was hospitalized with lower abdominal pain and delayed menstruation. The ultrasound results showed an image of an ectopic pregnancy located in the ovary, next to the uterus with the IUD still in the correct position.
After consultation, the doctors decided to perform laparoscopic surgery to treat the ectopic pregnancy. This is a modern, minimally invasive, safe surgical method, the patient recovers quickly, has little post-operative pain, ensures aesthetics, and limits scarring. After surgery, the patient's health is stable.
Dr. CK2 Dao Bich Chien (Department of Obstetrics, Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital) recommends that placing an IUD does not mean absolute contraception. Therefore, when there are abnormal signs such as delayed menstruation or menstrual disorders, prolonged lower abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, etc., it is necessary to visit a medical facility immediately.
According to medical statistics, ectopic pregnancy accounts for about 1-2% of all pregnancies. Ovarian pregnancy accounts for only about 0.7-1% of all ectopic pregnancies, which is considered extremely rare.
It is worth noting that in pregnant women who have had an IUD inserted, if an unwanted pregnancy occurs, the risk of ectopic pregnancy is higher than in the group that has not had an IUD inserted. In case of not being detected and intervened promptly, ectopic pregnancy can rupture, causing massive blood loss, hemorrhagic shock, and even life-threatening.
