With the eco- tourism product "Discovering Stone Cypress and Kling Cave", for the first time, tourists can visit the hundreds of years old Stone Cypress population in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
This is the first time tourists have been able to visit the Stone Cypress complex - a natural "treasure" for Phong Nha-Ke Bang.
Specifically, this eco-tourism project belongs to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Eco-tourism, Resort and Entertainment Project implemented by the Park Management Board - the forest owner, with a capital of 4.2 billion VND in the form of joint investment, with implementation period until 2030.
The project does not invest in building infrastructure but only installs and equips some necessary items such as: installing shelters to protect from the sun and rain at the campsite, attaching reflective ribbons to mark the way in the cave... to serve tourists visiting and exploring .
The eco-tour “Discovering the Green Stone Bach and Kling Cave” has 3 tour programs with duration of 1 day, 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights, the itinerary is scientifically arranged, ensuring to serve well the needs of sightseeing and exploration but also not having to move too much for tourists.
Currently in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park there is a population of Green Stone Cypress covering an area of about more than 5,000 hectares in the core area of the Park.
According to the representative of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the eco-tourism project "Discovering the Green Stone Cypress and Kling Cave" aims to effectively exploit the potential of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, develop sustainable eco-tourism products, create jobs, increase income for people and contribute to the budget.
Along with other tourism products, this new eco-tour promises to bring visitors extremely interesting experiences when seeing with their own eyes the population of Stone Cypress discovered in 2004, an ancient, rare, endemic plant species of the world that currently only exists in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang evergreen tropical forest and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
The Green Stone Cypress is a large, evergreen, broad-canopy coniferous tree; it reproduces monoeciously by seeds and is considered the most unique forest habitat, due to its global importance and conservation value, and is listed as endangered in the Red Book of the world. Currently, the Green Stone Cypress lives mainly in the limestone mountain area of the strictly protected sub-zone of the core zone of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park with an area of over 5,000 hectares. The presence of this ancient and endemic plant species is a scientific proof that affirms the pristine and unique biodiversity of this National Park.
