Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document assigning departments and branches to research and advise on calling for investors to implement elephant-watching tourism projects, to create conditions for reinvestment and improvement of separate habitats for elephants in the area.

Dong Nai has the second largest wild elephant population in the country.
In the document, the Provincial People's Committee gave its opinion on the proposal calling for investors to implement the elephant-watching tourism project of Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve.
Specifically, Dong Nai province believes that the above direction is necessary, however, to ensure the legal basis, the province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and work with the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism, the Department of Justice, elephant conservation experts and relevant units to review, based on current legal regulations, actual living conditions of elephants, the effectiveness of similar models in and outside the country. After that, unify the content, advise and propose to the Provincial People's Committee to direct and handle according to regulations.
Three months earlier, Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve had requested the Provincial People's Committee to consider allowing the Reserve to call for investors to implement an elephant-watching tourism project to create conditions for reinvestment and improvement of the elephants' habitat in the area.
Dong Nai province currently has the second largest wild elephant population in the country with about 25 - 27 individuals, including the presence of baby elephants.
The wild elephant herd currently lives in the forests of Cat Tien National Park, Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve and La Nga Dong Nai Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. with an area of over 42,000 hectares.
