Early repatriation of 33 Vietnamese citizens in Cambodia

(Chinhphu.vn) - Referring to the situation of protecting Vietnamese citizens in Cambodia, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that in the coming time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will soon bring 33 Vietnamese citizens back to the country.

On the afternoon of October 16, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in response to a reporter's question about the raid on October 14 by Cambodia on a suspected online fraud den and the arrest of 8 Vietnamese citizens, the Spokesperson said:

Immediately after receiving the above information, Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia proactively worked with Cambodian authorities to find out information and requested the Cambodian side to ensure security, safety and living conditions for Vietnamese citizens, and coordinate with the Cambodian side to complete the initial identity verification procedures for Vietnamese citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also directed relevant units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia to immediately coordinate with domestic agencies as well as Cambodian authorities to carry out necessary consular procedures and soon bring citizens home.

In the coming time, 33 Vietnamese citizens will be brought back to the country. In the face of the complicated situation of fraud and forced labor crimes in Cambodia, countries have taken drastic measures to protect the rights and interests of their citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively discussing with partner countries to establish cooperation mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of Vietnam's citizen protection work and more effectively combat organized crime and high-tech crime in Cambodia and other locations in the region.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia to closely monitor the situation, prepare necessary plans and coordinate closely with domestic and local authorities to promptly deploy citizen protection measures. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Vietnamese citizens do not follow invitations for easy jobs with high salaries to avoid being scammed./.
