Strengthening and developing Vietnam - Cambodia friendship

On the morning of October 15, in Ho Chi Minh City, the 8th meeting between the Ministry of National Defense and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland took place on the implementation of projects to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia, evaluating the results of the implementation of projects to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia in the past time, and agreeing on the direction of coordination in the coming time.

The delegation of the Ministry of National Defense was led by Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of National Defense. The delegation of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland was led by Ms. Samdech Men Sam An, President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland.

Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong expressed his joy at the fact that, despite many fluctuations in the world situation, the friendly neighborly relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia continues to be consolidated and developed in many fields; emphasizing that the meeting is a practical action contributing to promoting the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between the two States and two peoples and deepening the good traditional relationship between the Governments, armies and peoples of the two countries.

Congratulating Vietnam on its socio -economic achievements in recent times, Ms. Samdech Men Sam An thanked the Party, State, Army and people of Vietnam for their great and dedicated support and assistance in helping Cambodia escape the Khmer Rouge genocide regime; build and consolidate the government as well as develop Cambodia later. The traditional neighborly relationship and good friendship between the two nations, nurtured by the sacrifices of many generations of Vietnamese cadres and volunteer soldiers, needs to be consolidated and developed, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to highly appreciate the results achieved according to the contents of the Minutes of the 7th Session, signed on December 29, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City; the implementation of the Projects ensured progress and achieved good results.

The two sides affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland have closely coordinated, actively inspected, and urged agencies, units, and localities to implement projects to build, renovate, and embellish the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments.

From 2015 to present, Vietnam has provided funding for Cambodia to carry out 24 projects to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument and repair and upgrade the headquarters of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland; in 2024, it provided funding to build a road to the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Siem Reap province; in 2025, it provided funding to renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Mundunkiri and Prey Veng provinces and to build a new Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pusat province.

Through discussion, the two sides agreed to continue to effectively implement the contents signed at the meetings between the two sides in the coming time; closely coordinate and direct the acceleration of the project to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia (which has received financial support from the Vietnamese side) to ensure progress, quality and efficiency; continue to review the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments that have received financial support for construction, renovation and embellishment; organize the inauguration and handover to Cambodian localities for management, preservation and protection after completing the construction work.

The two sides continued to affirm that the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia are historical and cultural works representing the relationship between the two countries; therefore, they need to be managed, protected and their values ​​fully promoted to contribute to fostering the solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

The two sides believe that, on the basis of the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, the policies of the Vietnamese and Cambodian Governments on the construction, renovation and embellishment of Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia will be implemented effectively and successfully in the coming time.
