On the afternoon of October 16, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , a reporter asked to know Vietnam's reaction to the recent incident in the territorial waters of Thi Tu Island in the Truong Sa archipelago between a Chinese official ship and a Philippine official ship.
Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam has sufficient historical and legal basis to affirm its clear and unambiguous sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago, including Thi Tu island.
"Regarding the incident that occurred in the territorial waters of Thi Tu, Vietnam is extremely concerned about the public information provided by the relevant parties. Vietnam requests that relevant parties respect Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago, exercise restraint and act responsibly, respect international law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and relevant international regulations on maritime security and safety, including the Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG) issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), creating a favorable atmosphere for negotiating an effective, substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS 1982, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, security and safety in the East Sea and in the region," the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson emphasized.
Welcome the US objective assessment of Vietnam's results in preventing and combating human trafficking
Responding to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to the US State Department's publication of the 2025 Report on the World Trafficking in Persons (TIP Report), Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said: " Vietnam welcomes the US side's objective assessment of Vietnam's positive results in preventing and combating human trafficking in recent times."
Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam has been implementing and promoting the work of preventing and combating human trafficking according to key solutions and tasks in the Program on Prevention and Combating Human Trafficking for the period of 2021-2025 and orientation to 2030, notably the adoption of the Law on Prevention and Combating Human Trafficking in 2024; strengthening investigation, prosecution, and trial of human trafficking cases; identifying and supporting victims of trafficking; promptly responding to new challenges of the human trafficking situation in the region and the world.
Vietnam is also making efforts to implement the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) according to the Plan issued by the Prime Minister on March 20, 2020, to strengthen a transparent migration environment, protect the legitimate rights and interests of migrants, and prevent the risk of human trafficking in international migration activities.
"In that spirit, Vietnam hopes that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely, increase exchanges and dialogues to more comprehensively and positively evaluate Vietnam's efforts and achievements in preventing and combating human trafficking, in line with the spirit of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development," the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson added.
