12 works awarded prizes in the 2023-2025 Novel Writing Competition

With nearly 150 works by more than 120 authors from all over the country submitted to participate, the first Literature and Arts Times Novel Writing Contest (2023 - 2025) shows the interest and companionship of writers of many generations towards the current writing movement. The organizing committee awarded prizes to 12 outstanding works.

Welcoming the Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress and commemorating the 71st anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025), on October 10, in Hanoi , the Literature and Arts Times in collaboration with the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creation Support Fund and Digital Knowledge Media Joint Stock Company (TTS) organized the Award Ceremony of the 1st Literature and Arts Times Novel Writing Contest (2023-2025).

Speaking at the award ceremony, People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , affirmed that the novel writing contest has mobilized professional and non-professional writers, literature lovers at home and overseas Vietnamese to participate in creating works, reflecting truthfully and vividly the reality of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, portraying the image of people from all walks of life in the new era. At the same time, the contest also discovered and nurtured writers, especially young writers, to contribute to the development of the country's literature and arts.

Writer and journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times and Head of the Organizing Committee, said that the contest has the participation of professional and non-professional writers and literature lovers. The works are in many fields, about all social classes, contributing to building and nurturing the value system of modern Vietnamese people. Through that, the contest aims to arouse the spirit of patriotism and social responsibility of artists and literature and art lovers; at the same time, encourage the creation of works of high ideological and artistic value, meeting the wishes of the Party, the State and the people's need to enjoy literature and art.

“With nearly 150 works submitted by more than 120 authors from all over the country, the contest is a vivid demonstration of the enduring vitality of the novel genre - the “backbone” of the country’s literature; at the same time, it demonstrates the interest and support of writers from many generations for the current creative movement,” writer and journalist Hoang Du emphasized.

In terms of expertise, literary critic Bui Viet Thang, Head of the contest's jury, commented that the entries were in many forms. Traditional themes (history, revolution and war) accounted for about 40% of the entries; contemporary themes (current affairs - private life) accounted for about 55% of the entries, and about 5% of the entries were for other themes (ecology, fantasy, gender, AI...).

“Looking at these numbers, those who understand the literary situation will believe in the ability of novels to approach life,” critic Bui Viet Thang affirmed.

The organizing committee awarded 3 second prizes, 4 third prizes and 5 encouragement prizes for excellent novels. Of which, 3 second prizes were awarded to the works “Meat Alluvium” by author Nguyen Trong Tan, “Paving Stones” by author Bui Viet Sy, “Love for Thousand” by author Vinh Quyen.

In particular, the Organizing Committee awarded the Dedication Award to the work "Him Lam Moon" by author Chau La Viet and honored the accompanying units.
