On October 11, at the School of Mechanical Engineering ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology), the Faculty of Thermal Energy held a ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment and development of the Thermal Engineering industry and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Energy Technology.
The event is an opportunity to pay tribute to generations of teachers, students and scientists who have dedicated themselves to the industry, while affirming the position of Thermal Engineering in the career of training human resources and developing national energy science and technology.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Hoanh Son, Principal of the School of Mechanical Engineering, spoke at the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Truong Hoanh Son, Principal of the School of Mechanical Engineering, said that from a small major in thermal power engineering, the Thermal Engineering industry has now developed comprehensively, expanding training to the fields of renewable energy, energy saving, sustainable cooling, waste heat treatment and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
"These are key directions, in line with the trend of clean energy development and Vietnam's Net Zero commitment by 2050," Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Hoanh Son emphasized.
Up to now, the Thermal Engineering industry has trained more than 5,000 engineers, bachelors, hundreds of masters and doctors, many of whom are now leading experts in the field, holding leadership positions at large energy agencies and corporations at home and abroad.
The Faculty's lecturers and scientists have won many prestigious scientific and technological awards such as the Ho Chi Minh Award, the VIFOTEC Award, and have hundreds of prestigious international publications.
According to Dr. Le Duc Dung, Head of the Department of Thermal Energy, the Department currently has more than 30 lecturers, including 6 associate professors and 24 PhDs. The quality of training and research is constantly improved; programs are updated according to international standards, enhancing applicability and connection with businesses.
The Faculty has carried out many scientific projects at the State, Ministry and international cooperation levels, focusing on the fields of energy conversion, energy efficiency and emission reduction technology.
We focus on developing creative thinking, research and practical application skills for students. Graduates not only have solid knowledge but are also ready for 'real combat', meeting the requirements of the modern energy labor market, said Dr. Le Duc Dung.
The ceremony was also honored to have the attendance and speech of Dr. Nguyen Quan, Former Minister of Science and Technology, Chairman of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Alumni Association. He expressed his pride in returning to the school where he studied and worked.
Dr. Nguyen Quan, Former Minister of Science and Technology, spoke at the ceremony.
Dr. Nguyen Quan Over the past six decades, generations of teachers and students of Thermal Engineering have persistently built a solid foundation for energy training and research, making important contributions to the country's industrialization and modernization.
Nowadays, in the context of global energy transition, the role of Thermal Engineering is becoming more and more essential, as a bridge between academic science and practical application, between innovation and sustainable development, Dr. Nguyen Quan emphasized.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the development of the Faculty of Thermal Energy and the Institute of Energy Technology is a testament to the strategic vision of the University in two key tasks: human resource training and applied research.
Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang said that the current training philosophy of Hanoi University of Science and Technology focuses on two core values: "talent" and "practice".
In addition, the school is focusing on developing three key human resource groups, including: a group of young scientists who aspire to pursue in-depth research, teaching and contributing to academic development; a group of technology experts who master high technology, have the ability to apply and deploy in practice, closely linked with businesses to promote innovation in production and industry; and a group of innovative entrepreneurs, a generation of start-ups in the fields of energy and environmental technology, with a spirit of dedication, creativity and aspiration to contribute to the green and sustainable development of the country.
We want graduates to not only 'learn' but also 'do', be creative, integrate internationally and make real contributions to the modern energy industry, Director Huynh Quyet Thang affirmed.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology is currently implementing a Development Project until 2030, striving to become a leading university in Asia, with engineering and technology groups in the top 100 in the world.
In particular, the energy and energy technology sector is identified as a strategic pillar, associated with Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025 of the Politburo on ensuring national energy security until 2030, with a vision to 2045, and Vietnam's carbon neutrality commitment.
