Ca Mau: Waterway tourism in the 2023-2025 period is estimated to reach more than 15.6 billion VND

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ca Mau province has sent report No. 697/BC-SVHTTDL to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the current status of waterway tourism activities in the 2023 - 2025 period in the province.

The report said that in the period 2023 - 2025 (up to September 30, 2025), waterway tourism activities in Ca Mau province attracted over 131,200 visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at over 15.6 billion VND. In particular, the main service is the forest tour service at Mui Ca Mau National Park, welcoming 98,554 visitors, with revenue from this service reaching over 14.4 billion VND, accounting for about 75% of the total number of visitors and 92% of the total revenue from waterway tourism in the period 2023 - 2025, becoming a key product with a brand, attracting visitors to visit and experience.

Waterway tourism in Ca Mau has many favorable conditions for development.

In which, the main waterway tourism routes and products include the main waterway tourism routes and products of Ca Mau province, which are the sightseeing route through the forest of Mui Ca Mau National Park with a length of about 20 km; The tourist route through the forest of Mui Ca Mau National Park has been piloted since 2019, bringing many unique experiences; In addition, there are also intra-regional sightseeing routes within the management scope of Song Trem Eco-tourism Area (Nguyen Phich Commune), Ca Mau Eco-tourism Site and Muoi Ngot Eco-tourism Site (Da Bac Commune) with a length of about 01 - 02 km; routes transporting tourists to sightseeing spots such as Huong Tram Eco-tourism Site (Da Bac Commune), Ba Hung Community Eco-tourism Household (Phu My Commune), the road leading to Hung Thien Pagoda (Hung Hoi Commune) with a length of about 02 - 03 km.

Currently, waterway tourism activities in Ca Mau province have about 400 workers participating, including managers of tourist areas and spots, vehicle operators, service staff, tour guides... For workers directly at Mui Ca Mau National Park and some other eco-tourism spots, they have basically been trained in tourism skills, lifesaving, firefighting, drowning rescue and first aid training... For workers directly at the road leading to Hung Thien Pagoda (Hung Hoi commune), they are mainly local workers with many different occupations, so they have not met the requirements of serving tourists.

The whole province currently has 81 vehicles serving tourists by waterway, including: 06 canoes, 06 boats, 61 motorboats, 08 small boats,... Of which, 22 vehicles are granted certificates of registration of inland waterway vehicles, certificates of technical safety and environmental protection of inland waterway vehicles, certificates of inland waterway vessel insurance; 21 vehicle operators have certificates of inland waterway vehicle expertise, certificates of professional competence of inland waterway vehicle captains in accordance with regulations.

According to the assessment, Ca Mau has a dense system of rivers and canals, associated with the mangrove ecosystem and coastal alluvial plains, creating a unique natural advantage for developing waterway tourism. The waterway tours are rich and diverse, connecting many ecotourism, community, religious, and culinary culture destinations, meeting the increasing needs of tourists.

The number of tourists coming to Ca Mau in general, and participating in waterway sightseeing activities in particular, tends to increase over the years; tourism services are gradually improved in quality; State management of tourism is increasingly concerned and directed promptly; the active participation of the community and local businesses contributes to creating new tourism products, associated with the typical life of the river region.

To contribute to solving difficulties and sustainably developing waterway tourism in Ca Mau province in the coming time, we respectfully request the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other central ministries and branches to pay attention to and support training and human resource development: Support the organization of professional training courses for service staff to improve professional skills, ensure safety and quality of waterway tourism services.

Promotion and advertising of tourism products: Strengthen support for communication and promotion of typical tourism products of Ca Mau associated with the mangrove ecosystem, Ramsar Site and Ca Mau Cape World Biosphere Reserve, contributing to spreading the image of Ca Mau strongly in the domestic and international markets.

Vehicle management: Recommend that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinate with the Ministry of Construction to issue specific instructions for small watercraft serving tourists; at the same time, simplify registration and inspection procedures while still ensuring full compliance with regulations on technical safety, environmental protection, insurance and vehicle operator certificates according to the Law on Inland Waterway Traffic and the Law on Tourism; create favorable conditions for people and businesses to participate in safe and effective waterway tourism activities.
