Vietnamese-origin players attend World Cup

Ibrahim Maza and Algeria won tickets to the 2026 World Cup.

Maza has an Algerian father and a Vietnamese mother. He was born and raised in Germany and played for the youth teams of this country. However, Maza eventually chose the Algerian national team as his official destination for his international career.

The attacking midfielder born in 2005 just participated in Algeria's 3-0 victory over Somalia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Africa on the morning of October 10. The victory helped Algeria maintain the top position in Group G with 22 points, winning a direct ticket to the biggest football festival on the planet.

Maza has attracted attention in the transfer market recently. The talent who grew up at Hertha Berlin has continuously been on the radar of many European giants. In the summer of 2025, Bayer Leverkusen spent 12 million euros to recruit Maza to replace Florian Wirtz who moved to Liverpool.

The 19-year-old midfielder has played 7 matches in all competitions, without scoring or assisting in his new team. However, playing for Leverkusen is considered a turning point for Maza to develop himself.
