Actors of 'Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story' feel pressured because of hot scenes

After the "hot" scene in "Once upon a time there was a love story", actress Ngoc Xuan cried because she could not get over her emotions and felt sorry for the character Mien's fate.

The trailer released at noon on October 7 revealed many details in the film adaptation of Nguyen Nhat Anh's novel. Director Trinh Dinh Le Minh said the intimate scene between Mien (Ngoc Xuan) and Phuc (Do Nhat Hoang) was one of the challenging scenes. Before filming, he talked to both of them, explaining that the situation played an important role in the character development process, from friendship to love. Thanks to that, the actors were well prepared mentally.

The scene took place in a cornfield on a rainy night. To get to the location, the crew had to take a boat to a sandbank in the middle of the river. Le Minh limited the number of people on set to only the director and cameraman to ensure privacy. The camera was placed far away, and the crew watched on a monitor, helping the actors feel comfortable.

According to the director, Ngoc Xuan was under a lot of pressure because this was her first time acting in a movie. The plot required the actress to show a desperate mood due to adversity. "After finishing the hot scene, the crew moved to shore, she still couldn't get out of character, she put her head on my shoulder and cried because she felt sorry for Mien's fate," he said.

Ngoc Xuan said that because she had read the book before, she knew that the film had sensitive scenes in two different segments. When she was cast, she wondered if she was ready to play the role. At first, the 25-year-old actress had to struggle mentally, read the book many times, and analyze the situation to better understand Mien's emotions. "My parents also encouraged me, saying that the original work was a good book with high educational value, so I overcame my fear," she said.

In the original, Mien had an unhappy childhood and a broken family. Mien's father was often drunk, her brother caused trouble everywhere, and her mother could only cry and beg. The climax was when one day Phuc - her childhood friend - planned to escape with Mien from the village to start a new life.

The film revolves around Vinh (Avin Lu), Mien, Phuc - a group of close friends who were close throughout their youth in the 1990s in the poor countryside of Phu Yen . Growing up, Vinh and Phuc both fell in love with Mien, and the love triangle was the key to the main characters' life changes.

Story Once upon a time there was a love story released in 2016, sold more than 100,000 copies, entered the top 10 best-selling works of Nguyen Nhat Anh. Compared to many books on the same topic such as In Blue Eyes, Red Summer, and Passing Chrysanthemums , the author goes into more intense situations. The first clumsiness develops into deep love, including "eating rice before marriage". The publisher initially planned to label the story 16+, but later decided not to limit the age because they considered the work to be highly educational.

Ngoc Xuan is from Tien Giang and appeared in the movie Mother's Dream (2022), MV Why is it bright? of singer Lam Truong. In the actor selection round of Once upon a time there was a love story , Ngoc Xuan was loved by the audience through videos posted on the TikTok platform. From there, the actress entered the next rounds, becoming the main face of the project.
