OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG STRIKERS
On October 21, the Vietnamese women's team gathered in Hanoi , starting the final stage of preparation for the 33rd SEA Games. The 33rd SEA Games women's football (from December 4 to 17) has 8 participating teams. According to the draw results on October 19, Vietnam is in Group B with Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia. Thailand is in Group A with Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. Thailand, with home field advantage, is still considered the biggest rival of Vietnam. The team from the land of the golden pagoda is currently led by coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian. Ms. Srathongvian is an experienced domestic coach, promising to bring a new breeze to the playing style and spirit of the country's women's team.

The Myanmar women's team has been on a strong rise recently. At the 2025 AFF Women's Cup held in August, Myanmar defeated both Thailand and the Australian youth team, then finished as runners-up (losing to the Australian youth team in the rematch in the final). Meanwhile, the Philippine women's team is also very formidable, with many naturalized players with superior physique and fitness, which will become a big challenge for coach Mai Duc Chung and his team in their journey to defend the gold medal.
IT'S OK IF HUYNH N HU IS ABSENT
The list of players gathered this time includes 27, including the mainstays of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club, notably Huynh Nhu, Chuong Thi Kieu... because they are busy competing in the Asian Women's Club Championship taking place in mid-November. This absence opens up valuable opportunities for the young players. It is impossible not to mention strikers Ngoc Minh Chuyen and Luu Hoang Van - two factors that are shining in the U.19 women's Vietnam shirt. Ngoc Minh Chuyen won the title of top scorer of the U.19 women's Southeast Asia tournament 2023. The striker born in 2004 was called up to the national team in previous training sessions and recently demonstrated clear progress in his ability to move and finish. Luu Hoang Van played quite explosively in the U.19 women's Southeast Asia tournament in June 2025 with 5 goals, wearing the national team jersey for the first time.
Coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed: "Teams in the region are naturalizing players en masse. This is somewhat causing difficulties for Vietnamese players, who do not have strong physical and mental strengths. However, in return, the players have high determination, agility and dexterity. In addition, the VFF also creates the best conditions for the Vietnamese women's team to compete and train abroad, from which they can learn many lessons and make progress."
The Vietnamese women's team will also have an important training trip in Japan from November 20. Here, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are expected to have 3 friendly matches with quality women's clubs in the land of cherry blossoms.
U.23 VN IN THE SAME GROUP WITH MALAYSIA AND LAOS
The draw ceremony for the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games on the afternoon of October 19th witnessed a major change in the competition format, as the participating teams will be divided into 3 groups, instead of 2 groups as before. This is to reduce the density of the competition, averaging 2 matches/day, while teams are only allowed to register 20 players, which can easily lead to overload. U.23 Vietnam is in group B with Malaysia and Laos. Host U.23 Thailand is in group A with Cambodia and Timor Leste. Group C has 4 teams including: U.23 Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore.
