The 2025 National Youth Skating Championship, organized by the Vietnam Skating and Roller Skating Federation in coordination with the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, took place from October 17-19 in Hanoi, showing an improvement in professional skills when the general level of participating athletes showed meticulous performances, careful preparation and high professional quality.

The athletes participating in this year's tournament showed a higher level of expertise than in previous years.

Evaluating the quality of athletes this season, Coach Tran Khanh Linh (Chieu Linh), National Youth Figure Skating Team, commented: "Overall this year, the level of athletes has improved a lot compared to previous years. The performances are "very clean" (the performances are almost error-free), most of the young athletes have the ability to perform fine motor techniques (movements such as turning, spinning in the air...) according to the requirements of the competition."

This is also the assessment of the Jury after witnessing the entire performance of the athletes. This year's season has the participation of 90 athletes from the following localities: Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong.

In particular, many young faces have achieved high results in regional and international competitions, contributing to affirming the position of Vietnamese Skating in the continental arena. Among them, 7 athletes won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals at the Asian Speed Skating Championship held last August in India.

This shows that the development orientation from the movement foundation of the Vietnam Skating and Roller Federation has brought positive results. Skating is one of the sports that is considered suitable for the physique of Vietnamese people when it has high demands on body shape and speed.

"Vietnamese people have the advantage of being small and light, which is important for a sport that requires high artistic standards like Ice Skating. With the movements of turning and rotating in the air, athletes with small bodies have a big advantage in balancing and jumping and rotating in the air. Although we suffer many disadvantages in terms of foundation and technique, these are factors that can be overcome over time if we train in good environments with adequate conditions" - Coach Tran Khanh Linh said.

From SEA Games to continental and world tournaments

Figure skating is one of the sports that will be competing at the 33rd SEA Games to be held in Thailand this coming December. According to the announcement from the Organizing Committee, Figure skating will be held from December 17 to 19.

Nguyen Cao Ha Mi is one of the faces expected to represent Vietnam Figure Skating to attend the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

Mr. Nguyen Vo Huu Vinh, Head of the Professional Board of the Vietnam Skating and Roller Sport Federation, Head Coach of the National Skating Team, said that up to now, the National Skating Team is preparing to complete the working procedures, propose a training plan in Ho Chi Minh City, arrange to attend the training program from now until December, ensuring the best technique and physical strength for the congress.

It is known that in this call-up, the National Figure Skating Team has the participation of 7 athletes, including 2 athletes competing in the artistic category and 5 athletes competing in the speed category. After the tournament, the athletes will train in Ho Chi Minh City before going to Thailand to compete.

"Currently, the goal of Speed Skating is to accumulate experience and prepare for the big program in the following years. But we also have certain grounds to believe in competing for medals in the men's relay event" - Mr. Nguyen Vo Huu Vinh said.

According to Mr. Huu Vinh, on the regional level, Vietnamese Figure Skating has made significant improvements in performance. From 2022 to now, the achievements of Vietnamese athletes in the international arena have increased significantly. This is considered a good sign that Vietnamese people are completely suitable for speed competitions on ice.

"In terms of foundation, we have everything, but to achieve better results, we need to invest more in facilities and training. Only then will athletes have a breakthrough in speed compared to the present" - Coach Huu Vinh added.
