The tournament that U23 Vietnam is about to attend suddenly has a change.

According to the latest information from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), U23 North Korea has withdrawn from the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers.

U23 Vietnam fell into an easy group at the 2024 U23 Asian Qualifiers.

The reason for this decision of U23 North Korea has not been revealed yet.

Thus, up to now, Group I of the 2024 AFC U23 Qualifiers has only 3 teams: host Tajikistan, Australia and Laos.

The withdrawal of North Korea U23 also caused a change in the scoring method of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers.

Specifically, the head-to-head record of the second-placed teams against the bottom-placed teams (in a group of 4 teams) will not be counted.

This decision is to ensure fairness to the second-placed teams in a group of three teams.

Previously, according to regulations, the 11 leading teams in each group and the 4 second-placed teams with the best results will qualify for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals.

As planned, this tournament will take place from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar.

The 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals are also the qualifying rounds for men's football at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the qualifying round, U23 Vietnam is in group C with Guam, Yemen and Singapore.

This is considered a fairly easy group for the red team and coach Troussier and his team also aim to win a ticket to continue.

It is expected that the 2023 AFC U23 Qualifiers will take place from September 4 to September 12 in a round-robin format to calculate points and rankings.

U23 Vietnam's best achievement at this tournament was reaching the final in 2018 before losing to Uzbekistan.
