The My Son World Heritage Site currently preserves more than 70 ancient temples and towers, built from the 4th to 13th centuries, reflecting the prosperity of the ancient Champa Kingdom. Each year, this heritage site welcomes about 450,000 visitors, but the length of stay is short, the average spending is lower than many other tourist destinations in the Central region. The main reasons are that the product is still monotonous, dependent on traditional tours, lacking services to retain visitors at night and not taking full advantage of the natural landscape of the buffer zone.
My Son World Cultural Heritage
The Management Board of My Son World Cultural Heritage has actively consulted experts and businesses to find a solution to balance conservation and exploitation. Ms. Thuy Khanh, CEO of Minh Phan Tourism Company, said that to increase the value of services, My Son needs to upgrade its facilities, staff, and especially develop night-time economic products. “If we want to increase ticket prices, we need a roadmap to standardize services, upgrade facilities and staff synchronously. For My Son World Cultural Heritage, we need a roadmap but the time must be shortened. Along with increasing the selling price, we need to have night-time economic products to exploit accommodation services and customer spending synchronously.”
My Son World Cultural Heritage - an attractive destination for tourists
According to Mr. Bui Van Tuan, CEO of Hi VOOC Company, the potential for developing eco-tourism and experiencing nature needs to be combined to create unique and attractive products for high-end customers: “This is a very special product line because it involves a team of experts in animal and plant research, and experts in eco-tourism. To do this, it is necessary to combine with companies specializing in organizing these types of tours as well as having the support of experts to build databases, build tour routes, build products…”.
Diversify and improve service quality to attract visitors to My Son
For night experience products, My Son will invest in Champa art performances, indigenous cuisine, and lighting spaces in the heritage valley; Closely cooperate with travel companies to open special tours, attracting long-term international visitors; Apply digital technology in introduction, automatic explanation, online ticket sales and tourist management; Strengthen training of local human resources, helping the community directly participate and benefit from tourism...
Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet - Deputy Director in charge of the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board affirmed: "The My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board is researching and setting out a suitable roadmap and steps to attract resources to both restore and develop products and services to serve tourists. We determined that we need to focus on improving the quality of services for tourists as well as unique and distinctive products to be worthy of the Heritage site."
Every year, My Son Heritage Site welcomes about 450 thousand tourists.
With the support of travel agencies, My Son will not only be a “living museum” of Champa civilization but will also become the leading eco-tourism and experience center in the Central region. This is also an opportunity for this thousand-year-old heritage to be both sustainably preserved and bring socio-economic value to the community, contributing to affirming the Da Nang tourism brand on the world map.
