Haaland's only first-half strike helped Pep Guardiola's side win 1-0 at Community Stadium, continuing his impressive form this season.
Speaking after the match, Haaland frankly compared Brentford's playing style to Stoke City under manager Tony Pulis - a team famous for Rory Delap's long ball style and dangerous throw-ins more than a decade ago.
“It was a very difficult game, it reminded me of Stoke City with Rory Delap 15 years ago,” Haaland said. “They are big and they throw-ins from midfield, so it was difficult to deal with. It was important to prepare well, analyse their game and we did that. The coaching staff deserve credit.”

Delap is famous for his throw-ins straight into the opponent's penalty area. |
Delap has been a symbol of Stoke City’s direct long-ball style since the 2008 season, when the team was promoted to the Premier League. His powerful “rocket” throw-ins into the opponent’s penalty area used to make many big teams wary.
Statistics show that Delap has directly contributed to 24 of Stoke City's Premier League goals from throw-ins alone, and a further eight in the Championship.
This season, attacking throw-ins are being exploited again by many English teams, and Brentford is one of the teams that has applied them effectively. The team has scored 7 goals from throw-ins, the best record in the Premier League if counting from the beginning of last season. However, Man City's defense is still standing firm.
The win over Brentford kept Man City in the Premier League title race, while Haaland continued to assert his status as one of the most feared strikers in Europe today.
