In a statement, the academy said Krasznahorkai was being honored "for a body of compelling and insightful writing that, amid apocalyptic horror, affirmed the power of art." He will receive the $1.2 million prize.
Writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai was born in 1954 in Hungary and has won many national and international awards. His works have been translated into many languages and are highly appreciated by critics and loved by audiences in countries such as Germany, the US, the UK and Japan.
Last year, the Nobel Prize for Literature went to South Korean writer Han Kang. She is also the first Korean female writer to receive this award.
This is the fourth prize to be announced in the 2025 Nobel season, after the Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Physics and Chemistry.
