Ready to welcome people into barracks to avoid storms and floods
In Hoa Khanh ward, one of the key flooding areas of Da Nang city, the 409th Special Forces Battalion (General Staff of Military Region 5) sent nearly 100 officers and soldiers to residential groups along Me Suot, Da Son, and Pham Nhu Xuong streets to support single-parent families in moving their assets and livestock to high, safe places. The unit also proactively reinforced and secured barracks and warehouses and prepared two rows of high-rise buildings to welcome people from low-lying areas for evacuation.

Under heavy rain, over the past two days, soldiers of the following units: Reconnaissance Battalion 32, Electronic Warfare Battalion 97 (General Staff of Military Region 5); Regiment 971; Armored Battalion 699 (Da Nang City Military Command) have also worked day and night to help people respond to natural disasters. From experience in the historic flood at the end of 2022, on the night of October 22, Armored Battalion 699 organized 4 vehicle crews to be on duty at the Da Nang City Military Command and areas at risk of deep flooding and isolation to be ready to handle and mobilize when situations arise.
At Cu Lao Cham Island (Da Nang), Ly Son Special Zone ( Quang Ngai ) and Tam Quang Economic -Defense Zone , with the support and guidance of officers and soldiers of Economic-Defense Group 516 (Military Region 5), Mixed Battalion 70 (Da Nang City Military Command) and Border Guard, Coast Guard, Fisheries Surveillance and other functional forces, hundreds of fishing boats of fishermen soon entered safe anchorage and shelter... On the afternoon of October 22, upon arriving in Da Nang, according to the assignment of functional forces, hundreds of canoes, motorboats, and unmanned aerial vehicles of volunteer rescue teams were already in hiding in areas at risk of flooding and isolation to be ready to support and help people.
Proactively respond to all situations
On the morning of October 22, more than 20 households living in the Suoi Da area (Son Tra peninsula, Da Nang city) at high risk of landslides were mobilized and assisted by the authorities to evacuate. Around noon, 12 other households in the Khe Can area (Thanh Khe ward, Da Nang city) were also picked up by the army to concentrated shelters in the area, in case floodwaters from upstream suddenly poured in, causing isolation and deep flooding.

Directly inspecting and grasping the situation at agencies and units in Da Nang City on the morning of October 22, Colonel Phan Dai Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, highly appreciated the sense of responsibility, positivity and proactiveness of the forces in deploying plans, forces, and means, ready to mobilize to help people respond to storms, floods, and landslides; especially the deployment of forces to cover vulnerable, low-lying areas, actively helping people to reinforce houses, harvest crops, raise assets, and arrange evacuation areas. Talking to us, Colonel Phan Dai Nghia said: “Determining the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters as a combat mission in peacetime, the agencies and units of the Military Region always thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the motto "4 on-site"; strictly maintain the regime of command, on-duty, switchboard to receive information, promptly handle incidents; organize rescue, search and rescue, and respond to natural disasters 24/24 hours. The Military Region Command requires Party committees and commanders of agencies and units to regularly monitor and grasp the situation, promptly mobilize forces and means to rescue people, and minimize damage to people and property."
