Half a century of companionship
Officially becoming the 149th member of the United Nations nearly 50 years ago became a special historical milestone in Vietnam's development and global integration process.
Over the past half century, the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation has contributed to protecting and promoting Vietnam's national interests, especially maintaining and consolidating a peaceful , secure and favorable environment for national development; promoting deep international integration, enhancing Vietnam's position and image in the international arena, as well as deepening relations between Vietnam and other countries and partners.
Highlighting the role of the United Nations - the world's largest multilateral organization with the mission of maintaining international peace and security, promoting friendly cooperation and development among countries around the world, Vietnam affirms that cooperation with the United Nations always holds an important position in the foreign policy of the Party and State.
Proactively and increasingly making substantial contributions to the activities of the United Nations, Vietnam is considered by the international community as a successful example in implementing the Millennium Development Goals and a country determined and seriously implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development...
Besides promoting respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, equal relations, development cooperation between nations and the right to self-determination of peoples, Vietnam also actively participates in and contributes to the discussion and adoption of many important resolutions and declarations of the United Nations on disarmament, preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, combating terrorism, ensuring human rights and promoting development cooperation.
With its tireless contributions, Vietnam has been elected to many important positions and agencies of the United Nations and has left many marks at the United Nations General Assembly, as well as the Security Council, the Human Rights Council and the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
Notably, Vietnam was recently re-elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term with the highest number of votes among the Asia-Pacific countries elected for the 2026-2028 term, continuing to affirm Vietnam's increasingly high role, position and international prestige. Responsibility for sustainable development
In the context of the complicated and unpredictable world situation, Vietnam continuously receives the expectations and trust of the international community in promoting cooperation for sustainable development.
From an active and responsible partner of the international community, Vietnam has continuously affirmed its new stance, with a more responsible role in building and shaping common issues of the world. In particular, hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime on October 25 and 26 is an event of great significance for Vietnam in the process of international integration in the new situation.
The world has warned about the danger of cybercrime, a type of crime that goes beyond the scope of activities of financially motivated individuals. Not only causing direct financial losses and disrupting production and business, this type of crime also aims at other targets, including undermining business reputation, shaking people's confidence, influencing elections or public awareness... They even aim to influence community psychology when attacking key infrastructures such as energy, healthcare, telecommunications...
In that context, the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime is the first global legal framework on cybercrime in about 20 years, aiming to harmonize national laws, promote cooperation between countries in cross-border investigations, share electronic evidence, and provide legal and technical assistance between countries.
According to experts, Vietnam's selection to host the opening ceremony for the Convention this time emphasizes the international community's recognition of Vietnam's active role in the process of drafting the Convention, as well as Vietnam's capacity in promoting solutions to establish legal mechanisms to address global challenges.
In addition, hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, also known as the Hanoi Convention, demonstrates Vietnam’s proactive and responsible role in the field of cyber security. The event will elevate Vietnam as a neutral coordinator, as well as a bridge country in global governance activities.
Hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, the capital Hanoi is believed to become the center of multilateral diplomacy, witnessing an important historical milestone in the global effort to build a safer, more cooperative and more sustainable digital world. The event also affirms Vietnam's diplomatic success, the world's recognition of our country's increasingly high position in the international arena, especially in the field of digital security and global technical cooperation.
