The soft-shell turtle breeding model of Mr. Nguyen Van Cam, Hamlet 9, Vinh Vien A Commune, Long My District (Hau Giang Province) has an area of ​​300m2 of water surface in an earthen tank for convenient care and management.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cam said: Previously, the family bought about 1,000 soft-shell turtles for commercial breeding.

After nearly 2 years of care, he sold soft-shell turtle meat for nearly 100 million VND, after deducting expenses, he still had a profit of about 30 million VND.

Since 2022, his friends have introduced him to raising soft-shell turtles for breeding and delivering them to large breeding farms, which will give him a higher income than raising soft-shell turtles to sell as commercial meat.

Realizing the opportunity had come, he repaired the pond and bought 6,000 soft-shell turtles of 3cm size for 3,000 VND/each to raise.

After about 3 months, when the soft-shell turtles grow to 10cm in length, he sells this size of soft-shell turtle to hatcheries for 10,000 VND/turtle.

After 3 months of raising soft-shell turtles, Mr. Cam earned more than 50 million VND. After deducting expenses, he still made a profit of nearly 30 million VND.

The breeding time is from April to December. He can breed 2-3 crops of soft-shell turtles a year. Each crop he breeds an average of about 6,000 soft-shell turtles.

According to Mr. Cam, soft-shell turtles are a specialty that is very easy to raise, has little loss, and a very high survival rate. Baba's food is mixed fish that he puts out daily and industrial food.

Mr. Cam added: The turtle farming model is quite leisurely, does not require much capital but still brings a stable source of income for the family.

The soft-shell turtle breeding model is a new local model that helps farmers make full use of the production area, helping households increase their income on the same area.
