Launching the Southern fishing season and starting sea tourism in 2024

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Fisheries Industry's Traditional Day on April 1 (1959 - 2024), this morning, March 29, in Cua Viet town, Gio Linh District People's Committee held a ceremony to launch the Southern fishing season and launch sea tourism in 2024. In recent years, Gio Linh district has focused on directing the strong development of offshore fishing fleets; expanding and improving the quality of fishing logistics services, purchasing and processing aquatic products; continuing to effectively implement Decision No. 48/2010/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on a number of policies to encourage and support exploitation, aquaculture and seafood exploitation services in offshore areas to create favorable conditions for fishermen to increase offshore fishing trips, increasing the proportion of the fisheries industry.

Support fishermen in purchasing and converting boats and fishing gear to suit each fishing ground; develop models of cooperative production teams and logistics services at sea to support each other in production and search and rescue...

To date, the district has 862 ships and boats with a total capacity of 101,590 CV, of which 168 are 15 m or longer for offshore fishing. The total output of aquatic products in 2023 will reach 14,715 tons. The district has over 200 aquatic product processing facilities, creating jobs for thousands of workers...

With the advantage of a coastline of over 15 km, many beautiful beaches, favorable for tourism and resort development, sea tourism is considered a strength of Gio Linh district. To promote the development of sea tourism, the district has recently implemented a plan to build a community beach, encouraged and created favorable conditions in terms of policies, administrative procedures... to attract investment.

Within the framework of the Project “Developing tourism infrastructure to support comprehensive growth in the Greater Mekong Sub-region - Phase 2”, tourism infrastructure of Trung Giang, Gio Hai, Cua Viet beaches... is currently being invested in, constructed and completed. The district also focuses on surveying and planning potential tourist destinations; carrying out propaganda and promotion activities for sea tourism... to attract tourists to visit, relax and swim.

Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested departments, branches and sectors to coordinate with Gio Linh, Hai Lang, Trieu Phong and Vinh Linh districts to focus on leading and directing coastal communes and towns to continue to effectively implement policies to support fishermen; encourage owners of fishing vessels and offshore service vessels to build new, maintain, repair and maintain vessels and boats as well as supplement and improve fishing gear and modern equipment to strongly develop offshore fishing to ensure safety and higher efficiency.

Continue to thoroughly grasp and guide fishermen to carry out exploitation well in parallel with protecting the marine environment and aquatic resources. For fishermen, it is necessary to promote the spirit of solidarity, regularly consolidate and improve the quality of activities of self-management teams for safe boats, self-management teams for security and order, and build production teams at sea to support and help each other to work effectively at sea.

Local authorities, functional agencies, and border guards on the sea route continue to coordinate well, ensuring strict management of ships and boats at sea... The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and banks in the province focus on close coordination and actively deploy support measures and guide fishermen to access and borrow capital to develop production and business according to Decree 17/ND-CP of the Government on a number of policies for fisheries development with the highest results.

Gio Linh district in particular needs to continue promoting the emulation movement "Enriching yourself, enriching your homeland"; effectively implementing the coastal economic development program; focusing on directing the synchronous implementation of groups of tasks and solutions to soon turn the marine economy into the spearhead economy of the district.

On this occasion, the program "Border, sea, islands in my heart" 2024 organized by the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City presented 100 national flags to fishermen of Gio Linh district.

Within the framework of the launching ceremony of the Southern fishing season and the 2024 sea tourism, Gio Linh district organized a traditional boat racing competition with the participation of 100 athletes from 5 teams of Trung Hai, Trung Giang, Gio Hai, Gio Viet communes and Cua Viet town. At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the Cua Viet town team; the second prize to the Trung Hai commune team; the third prize to the Trung Giang commune team and the encouragement prize to the Gio Hai and Gio Viet commune teams.

On this occasion, Gio Linh district also organized a beach clean-up; a men's volleyball friendly match; an exhibition of the district's typical products and many other activities.
