VHO - On the evening of November 30, at Ho Chi Minh Square, the Department of Culture and Sports of Nghe An organized a preliminary summary program of phase I, opening the space for performing folk songs of Vi and Giam Nghe Tinh phase II, and at the same time summarizing and awarding prizes for the 2024 contest for composing and writing lyrics for Vi and Giam folk songs of Nghe Tinh.

Vi and Giam folk songs were formed in labor and have been closely associated with the labor professions of the people of Nghe An for generations. Each profession has its own songs and melodies associated with different contexts. Therefore, the space for performing Vi and Giam in Nghe An is very rich, such as the space of the fields has Vi Phuong Xay (planting) and Vi Dong Dien (field singing); the space of the forests and mountains has Vi Climbing Mountain (mountain climbing); the space of working on the river has Ho on the river (river singing), Vi Do Dua (ferrying boat singing), etc.

The uniqueness of Vi and Giam folk songs lies in their close connection with the space and working environment of the people. The rhythm of Ho, Vi and Giam is also mostly the rhythm of labor (ho pulling wood, ho damming soil, ho on the river, etc.). Therefore, listeners not only feel the beauty of the lyrics and voices, but also see in them a whole culture originating from the labor production of our ancestors.

In the work of preserving and promoting the folk heritage of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam, besides preserving the ancient melodies and lyrics, the performance space is identified as one of the extremely important factors contributing to the preservation and promotion of the value of the melodies, because that is the environment for Vi and Giam folk songs to develop and revive.

The construction and restoration of performance spaces to create an environment for heritage to exist and develop naturally and gradually bring Vi and Giam folk songs back to the community is in line with the goal of preserving folk songs - exactly as the criteria set by UNESCO for Vi and Giam folk songs after they were recognized as Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In order to propagate and promote the everlasting and unique values of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs as well as to meet the needs of enjoying traditional cultural arts of Nghe An people, Nghe An Provincial Traditional Arts Center has coordinated with the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh Square and Uncle Ho Monument to build a Vi and Giam folk song performance space at Ho Chi Minh Square.

The space for performing and exchanging Vi and Giam folk songs at Ho Chi Minh Square and Uncle Ho's statue is recreated by images familiar to Nghe An countryside such as banyan trees, water wharves, communal house yards, bamboo looms, silk carts, etc.

Coming to the Vi and Giam folk song performance space on weekends at Vinh city's walking street, tourists and locals can enjoy rustic and profound folk songs performed by excellent artists and Vi and Giam folk song clubs, exchange and experience folk song singing and enjoy the specialties of their homeland.
