The soul of the homeland permeates the blood and flesh

Entering the exhibition hall of Nghe An province, visitors can walk through the countryside rich in identity. Images of the industrious and studious people of Nghe An; local products; typical cuisine and daily life are delicately and vividly arranged. Standing out in that space is the soft but profound sound of Vi and Giam singing, telling stories about labor and family affection.

According to Meritorious Artist Le Thanh Vinh (currently working at the Nghe An Traditional Arts Center), Vi Giam folk songs are an art form that has been associated with every Nghe An resident since childhood. “Nghe An residents are born listening to Vi Giam. From the lullabies of mothers and grandmothers, this melody has permeated the lives and souls of each person,” said the Meritorious Artist.

Artists perform Vi and Giam folk songs at the exhibition space of Nghe An province.

The artists perform regularly at 3 time slots: 9am, 11am and 2:30pm. “Performing here from the opening day until now, there have been moments that have made us truly emotional and proud. Many audiences, although not from Nghe An, are still passionate about Vi and Giam folk songs. Some people came once, then came back the next day and said that they came just to listen to Vi and Giam songs,” Meritorious Artist Le Thanh Vinh emotionally shared.

He added that many young audiences also came to the exhibition booth, curious to hear these simple but emotional melodies. Some stood quietly listening, their eyes following the artists' every move; others were moved to tears, recalling their childhood memories. Mr. Tran Minh Tuan (born in 1993, in Hanoi ) said: "I am not from Nghe An, but when I listen to the folk melodies of Vi and Giam, I feel strangely close. This melody made me linger at the Nghe An province exhibition booth to watch the artists perform. Especially, the more I listen, the more I am drawn to each rhythm, each word; it is really interesting."

Preserving and promoting heritage

The fact that Nghe Tinh folk songs are brought to the exhibition of 80 years of national achievements not only helps visitors enjoy a unique art form but is also a way to spread culture, bringing the soul of Nghe An closer to the public nationwide.

The melodies at the exhibition are not only sounds, but also a cultural heartbeat, connecting the past with the present and opening up a sustainable future for Nghe An heritage. Vi and Giam folk songs, with their simplicity but depth, still resonate like a river, flowing through people's lives, preserving their spiritual and cultural values, while contributing to enriching the picture of Vietnamese culture in the new era.
