Türkiye seizes $1 billion in counterfeit money sent to Africa

Turkish officials said on Friday that security forces traced the suspects to a storage facility in Istanbul's Kagithane district.

Here, they seized a large amount of counterfeit $100 bills intended to be sent to African countries.

The suspects' homes were searched and their cash and jewelry were confiscated.

The consulates of Sweden and Ghana, the countries where the suspects are believed to be involved, have been informed of the incident.

Turkish officials say this is the largest counterfeit money haul in the country's history.
