Sharing the secret to growing early-ripening lychees to produce a garden full of fruit, Mr. Nguyen Van An said: "Thanks to paying attention to taking care of the lychee trees from flower bud differentiation to flowering and fruit setting, and balanced fertilization, almost every lychee crop is a good one...".
Mr. An emphasized that the deciding factor in whether the garden has a good or bad harvest is the shoot care stage.
In the 9th lunar month, growers take care of and stimulate the shoots. If pests eat the shoots, they need to spray to prevent them. From the end of September to the first half of October, when the shoots are old, they need to girdle the base of the tree a few meters. The girdle position is about 50-70 cm above the ground.
During this time, people who grow early ripening lychees need to visit their gardens and pay attention to the time to ring the base of the tree. If ringing is done too late, the tree will not be able to incubate flower buds, and sometimes the tree will not even flower, because the lychee tree needs time to accumulate nutrients to nourish the young fruit.
At the same time, growers of early-ripening lychees need to adhere to the "4 rights" principle: right variety, right dosage, right time and right method.
Depending on the age of the lychee tree, the appropriate amount of fertilizer can be estimated. In addition, it is also necessary to prune small branches, diseased branches, and thick branches in the canopy to keep the tree airy, creating conditions for the main flower branches to grow well, reducing the shelter of pests and diseases" - Mr. An said.

Mr. Nguyen Van An, a farmer who has grown early ripening lychees for more than 20 years, has a lychee garden full of fruit in his family's Yen Cu village, Tan Soi commune, Yen The district ( Bac Giang province). Regarding the price of lychees, Mr. An said that in the first sessions, his family sold lychees for 37,000-40,000 VND/kg...
Mr. Nguyen Van An further revealed: "Currently, my family has 10,000 square meters of early lychee growing with U Hong and U Trung varieties, most of the trees are over 20 years old.
Thanks to good care, the lychee trees are very healthy and productive. This lychee crop yielded 10-12 tons, with large, even fruits and beautiful appearance. In the first few sessions, my family sold lychees for 37,000-40,000 VND/kg, but now they sell for 27,000-30,000 VND/kg." With a good crop and high prices, Mr. An's family is very excited.
In the same Yen Cu village, Mr. Nguyen Van Ket's family has a lychee garden that is currently yielding fruit. All lychee trees are cared for according to VietGAP standards.
According to Mr. Ket, to have a lychee garden with many fruits, beautiful fruit appearance, and high price, it is necessary to apply care methods according to VietGAP standards, comply with strict regulations on fertilization, use pesticides according to the correct list, concentration, and dosage according to instructions.
In addition, it is necessary to regularly clean the garden, sprinkle lime powder periodically to avoid pests and diseases, prune branches and create canopy. With this method, the family's lychees are always favored by customers. Familiar traders from Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen come to the village every year to buy, so people do not have to work hard to sell.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan - Head of Yen Cu village said, "The whole village has over 200 households, almost all families in the village grow early ripening lychee. In 2023, households in the village established an Early Ripening Lychee Production Association, with 26 members participating.
The main lychee varieties grown are U Hong and U Trung lychee. The early ripening lychee tree is considered suitable for the soil conditions here, so the lychee produced is delicious and sweet, loved by customers.
This has also motivated the lychee growers in the village to always strive to produce fragrant, delicious, sweet lychees. This year, everyone joined hands and unanimously registered the U Trung lychee product to achieve 3-star OCOP, and is currently in the process of completing the appraisal documents.
Hopefully next year, U Trung lychee from Yen Cu village, Tan Soi commune will be known by many customers inside and outside the province."
Early ripening lychees in Tan Soi commune will start to be harvested from May 20 to June 15, and the main crop will start from June 10 onwards. These days, people have started to harvest, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 38,000 VND/kg, 15-20% higher than in previous years.
In Tan Soi commune (Yen The district, Bac Giang province), early ripening lychee and kumquat trees are two strong crops. Of which, early ripening lychee trees are concentrated in Yen Cu and Tan Mai villages...
In recent years, lychee trees have received early attention and expanded their acreage. Many households have accumulated valuable experience, creating lychee crops without crop failures, bringing in hundreds of millions of dong in income each crop, contributing to promoting the economic and social development of the locality. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Van An's household, which many people have come to learn and follow, said Mr. Nong Van Thien, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tan Soi Commune.
