Coach Mai Duc Chung will part ways with the Vietnamese women's team after the second qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Notably, this leader confirmed that coach Mai Duc Chung has never mentioned leaving the Vietnamese women's team with VFF.

"Up to now, coach Mai Duc Chung has not yet informed VFF about leaving the Vietnamese team after his contract expires," said this leader.

On the morning of October 23, the 1951-born coach shared that he will not continue to accompany the Vietnamese women's team after the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

“When the bamboo is old, the young bamboo will grow. It’s time for me to rest. At the end of this year, when my contract with VFF expires, I will retire.

This is my last tournament with the Vietnamese women's team. I have been there for many years and want the next coach to do better than me," Mr. Chung shared with the press.

This is not the first time the Hanoi -born coach has expressed his desire to leave the Vietnamese women's team.

In February 2022, after helping the red-shirt girls win a historic ticket to the World Cup, coach Mai Duc Chung also intended to resign.

But a few months later, VFF convinced and extended his contract until the end of 2023.

According to the schedule, the Vietnamese women's team will begin their journey in the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a match against Uzbekistan on October 26, then meet India (October 29) and Japan (November 1).
