Hacker sells millions of customer data: Vietnam Airlines apologizes

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam Airlines has just announced a data security incident. The airline said that some personal information may have been exposed, including full name, email address, phone number, date of birth and membership number.

Vietnam Airlines has just announced a data security incident related to an online customer care platform operated by a global technology corporation.

According to information from the partner, Vietnam Airlines is one of many businesses in the world using the services of this unit that were affected. Part of the customer data processed on this platform may have been accessed illegally.

The company said it immediately coordinated with authorities, cybersecurity experts and technology partners to investigate the incident, assess the scope of impact and strengthen data protection measures.

Some of the personal information that may have been exposed includes your full name, email address, phone number, date of birth and Lotusmiles membership number.

Notably, the company said that sensitive data such as credit cards, payment information, passwords, itineraries, passports and Lotusmiles account balances are still secure and unaffected. The company's internal information technology system is operating normally.

To protect personal information, Vietnam Airlines recommends that customers change their Lotusmiles account passwords and associated emails, be wary of fake scams, suspicious emails or calls impersonating Vietnam Airlines, and not share personal information or OTP codes, and not log in to unauthenticated systems.

The airline also apologized for the incident and any concerns it may have caused to customers. The airline said it would continue to update information and take all necessary measures to enhance data security and maintain passenger trust.

According to information on some hacker forums, a group of hackers has sold millions of customer information of Qantas, GAP Inc, Vietnam Airlines... More than 23 million of these records have the oldest data dated November 23, 2020, the latest dated June 20.
