Just like the first leg, the Vietnamese team had more than 20 shots in the return match against Nepal. However, the team's strikers could not score. The only goal of coach Kim Sang Sik and his team in this match came from an own goal by Nepal's central defender Suman Srestha. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese players hit the Nepalese goalpost three times.
Nepalese press expressed sadness when witnessing the home team continue to lose to Vietnam and officially be eliminated from the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers after 4 consecutive losses.
Deshsanchar commented: “Nepal has stopped in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers after a 0-1 defeat to the Vietnamese team. In this match, Nepal encountered difficulties early when conceding a goal in the 5th minute after Suman Srestha scored an own goal. This was the decisive goal of the match.
The Vietnamese team put on strong pressure after that but they could not penetrate the Nepalese net. Coach Matt Ross's team even had a clear chance to equalize in the 85th minute but could not take advantage of it successfully.
Deshsanchar newspaper also added about the incident before the match: “The referee postponed the match for 30 minutes due to heavy rain at Thong Nhat Stadium. Playing in muddy conditions affected both teams.”
Another Nepalese newspaper, Ron Post, commented: “Rohit Chand’s 100th match for Nepal turned into a disaster. The team lost 0-1 to Vietnam and officially stopped in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The whole team could not bring good memories to Rohit Chand on his special day.”

Nepalese newspaper assessed that the home team played well but still could not avoid defeat against the Vietnamese team (Photo: Nam Anh).
Nepal News headlined: “Nepal lost again to Vietnam”. The newspaper emphasized: “Nepal played well but could not avoid defeat against Vietnam. The team only lost from the only goal coming from an own goal by Suman Srestha. Thus, after 4 consecutive losses, Nepal was officially eliminated from the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers”.
Hamrokhelkud newspaper expressed regret: “If Dinesh Henjan’s shot in the 85th minute had been a goal, Nepal might have been able to surprise the Vietnamese team. The opponent made quite a few shots in this match but only scored 1 goal.”
Khabar newspaper praised goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong: "Goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong had an excellent match, with a series of impressive saves.
That made the Vietnamese team only able to score 1 goal against Nepal. The whole team could not give a gift to Rohit Chand, who had his 100th match for Nepal. The team's journey in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers officially ended.
In November, the fifth round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers will take place. Vietnam will visit Laos, while Nepal will face Malaysia.
