According to traders, on October 21, they received information that the warehouses had stopped purchasing because they were stuck in the testing process. The testing centers announced that due to maintenance and repair of testing equipment, they would temporarily stop accepting sample registrations from 6:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, and would resume accepting samples from 8:00 a.m. on October 27, 2025.

This information makes export companies and traders confused. On purchasing groups durian There were also many posts about this content immediately.
Responding to a reporter from VTC News, Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi, a durian trader in Dak Lak , said that many warehouses announced to stop buying, causing the price of durian to suddenly drop.
On October 22, the price of durian bought at the garden decreased by 15,000 VND/kg compared to the previous days, from 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg to 40,000 - 50,000 VND/kg. Many traders had collected goods a few days ago at 60,000 VND/kg but now could not sell them to the warehouse so they had to find a way to sell them at 35,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Loi said that the warehouses stopped buying because the testing room temporarily stopped operating until October 27, making it impossible to export goods.
“ The warehouse now only accepts pre-ordered goods. As for new goods, we have stopped selling. Traders like us are all losing money. One ton of durian costs up to 15 million VND. I signed a contract for more than 300 tons, only depositing money. The gardeners are calling all the time, but if they don’t buy, they will lose their deposit, which is a billion VND ,” said Mr. Loi.
Similarly, Mr. Le Ngoc Vu, a long-time trader in Dak Lak, confirmed information about testing rooms being shut down and warehouses stopping purchasing.
“ All testing points have been stopped, so inspection certificates will not be issued. Without the certificate, customs clearance is not possible. They said they will test again on October 27, but we still don’t know how. Traders now don’t dare to buy because they don’t know who to sell to ,” said Mr. Vu.
According to Mr. Vu, the current suspension of testing may stem from suspected violations in the quality testing of exported durian, related to heavy metal standards such as cadmium and yellow O (Auramine O).

Traders also said, durian price Type A goods at the warehouse have decreased sharply, from 90,000 VND to 78,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, type B goods have decreased by 20% more, and type C goods have been forced down even more.
Responding to a reporter from VTC News Electronic Newspaper, Mr. Vo Tan Loi - Chairman of the former Tien Giang Province Durian Association (waiting to be recognized as the Dong Thap Province Durian Association) said that the suspension of testing was related to the incident of detecting O yellow residue in many durian shipments exported to China recently.
“ The domestic test results were fine, but when China tested, it was discovered that the O gold content exceeded the allowable threshold. Therefore, the testing rooms were suspected of not being transparent ,” said Mr. Loi.
According to Mr. Loi, this incident has caused China to tighten control, many businesses have temporarily stopped shipping goods across the border, many containers have had to turn back. Warehouses in the West are preparing for the season but are also stopping. Farmers are afraid that their ripe goods will not be sold, while businesses are waiting.
In Dong Thap , Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh, a trader, said that if the gardens reach the harvest season and cannot be sold now, both traders and gardeners will suffer losses. Some companies have to turn back to sell domestically, accepting losses. Today's price dropped 15%, or 15,000 VND/kg compared to a few days ago.
According to traders, if the situation is not resolved after October 27-28, thousands of tons of durian from Dak Lak, Lam Dong and the Western provinces may be left unsold. The price reduction of 15,000-20,000 VND/kg is only the beginning, not to mention storage and transportation costs and the risk of damage.
Mr. Vo Tan Loi said he has planned to make a petition to the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province to propose an urgent meeting with businesses, cooperatives and farmers. “ Weak points must be overcome immediately, especially chemical control and transparency in testing rooms. Otherwise, every crop will have a crisis ,” Mr. Loi said.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that the Association is closely monitoring developments at border gates and gathering information from export enterprises. According to Mr. Nguyen, after the Mid-Autumn Festival, the demand durian consumption in China usually decreases, as the market enters a slowdown period after the peak of the holidays.
“ At this time, import warehouses in China also tend to limit new transactions to consume all inventory. The slowdown in imports is a cyclical factor, not just this year ,” Mr. Nguyen said.
