Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his relationship with US President-elect Donald Trump was “off to a very good start”, detailing a phone call between him and Mr Trump after the Republican won the recent US election.
In a speech broadcast on Sky News on November 17, Prime Minister Albanese described the call as "a very good start to our relationship... It was a positive phone call. We spoke for 10 minutes, it was one of the first calls he (Trump) has made."
The phone call between Prime Minister Albanese and President-elect Donald Trump touched on security ties including the AUKUS deal, under which Australia will buy US nuclear submarines over the next decade and develop a new class of nuclear-powered submarines with the US and UK.
Earlier, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said that Australia's center-left Labor government believes in its alliance with the United States - the Oceanian nation's largest security partner.
