11 art units participate in the 2025 National Cheo Festival

From October 20 to November 2, 2025, in Bac Ninh, the 2025 National Cheo Festival will officially take place with the participation of 11 professional art troupes from across the country.

The National Cheo Festival - 2025, chaired and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is a national-scale art activity, contributing to affirming the position of Cheo theater in modern Vietnamese cultural life.

The festival is held every three years to summarize and evaluate the quality of creation, staging and performance of Cheo art units nationwide. This is an opportunity to honor artists, directors, choreographers, musicians... who have made many contributions to preserving and promoting the artistic value of Cheo - a unique national theatrical form, rich in identity and enduring vitality in the Vietnamese soul.

Besides, the event is also a forum for exchange and learning between art units, encouraging creativity and affirming the role of Cheo in the general picture of Vietnamese theater in the integration period.

This year's festival has the participation of 11 professional art troupes from many provinces and cities such as: Vietnam National Traditional Theater, Hanoi Cheo Theater, Army Cheo Theater, Ninh Binh Art Theater, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh and Thai Nguyen.

21 plays were elaborately staged, deeply reflecting social life, praising the homeland - country - people of Vietnam, promoting humanistic and ethical values ​​and aspirations for goodness.

Nearly 900 artists, actors, and musicians will bring to the audience emotional performances, demonstrating their passion and talent in renewing traditional art with a modern breath.

According to the regulations, each unit participates in 01 play, with a duration of 90 to 120 minutes. Artists playing the main and secondary roles cannot participate in more than 2 plays in the entire Festival.

Works must have clear ideological content, promote beauty and humanistic values, not contrary to the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; not insult famous people, national heroes or violate good customs.

The festival encourages new and creative works that harmoniously combine traditional and modern elements, demonstrating unity in artistic style, performance technique and staging.

The Festival's Art Council consists of prestigious artists, researchers, and managers, ensuring objective and scientific selection. Awards include: Gold and Silver Medals for plays with high content and artistic quality; Individual Gold and Silver Medals for outstanding performers; Excellence Awards (if any) for creative elements such as scriptwriters, directors, musicians, designers, and choreographers.
