The program to celebrate Vietnam Stage Day (August 12th lunar calendar) and the death anniversary of stage founder Huyen Nu Pham Thi Tran in 2025; the scientific conference "50 years of innovation of Vietnamese stage art (1975-2025)" was recently organized by the Vietnam Stage Artists Association in coordination with the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province in Ninh Binh.
Speaking at the program, comrade Tran Song Tung, Vice Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee emphasized: From cheo, tuong, cai luong, puppetry to drama, opera, experimental theater, these art forms always reflect the reality of life, praise the beauty, the good, criticize the bad, the evil, at the same time nurture and foster love for the homeland and country.
From 1975 to 2025, the performing arts have achieved many great achievements, thousands of works of profound artistic and ideological value were born, many talented artists shone, contributing to improving spiritual life, encouraging the whole people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The fact that the program was held at the Theater named after Madam Pham Thi Tran has even more sacred meaning, an occasion to commemorate the founder of the profession, pay tribute to the predecessors and generations of artists who have devoted their lives to national art.

More than 200 artists from many generations were honored on this special occasion. From the big names associated with plays and works that have shaped the Vietnamese stage for half a century, to those who are still tirelessly contributing, continuing the tradition and enriching the value of national art.
The image of silver hair, slow steps, but eyes still shining with pride, along with the bright smiles and aspirational looks of artists in their prime, creates a special meeting between generations on the 50-year journey of Vietnamese theater, closely connected to the spiritual life of the people.
The moment People's Artist Duc Trung, People's Artist Le Chuc, People's Artist Thanh Tu, People's Artist Tam Chinh... were called, the applause in the auditorium resounded. The leaders of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association warmly held the hands of the veteran artists as they stepped up to the podium. The old artists trembled as they adjusted their scarves and gowns before receiving flowers and trophies, the gentle smiles on their faces clearly showing the traces of time. Between them were the artists who were continuing, being honored for the first time in a special event of the theater industry. Their eyes shone with happiness and aspiration. The meeting was like a convergence point after half a century of innovation in Vietnamese theater art, where tradition and modernity joined hands, where the past and future went hand in hand in a common flow of theater. The emotion was not only in honoring the living, but also in remembering the artists who had passed away.
People's Artist Thanh Tu shared: "After more than 60 years of artistic activities, I cannot be separated from the stage. I have never refused when invited back, because until the day I am no longer present in this life, I will still be a person of the stage. Being honored on this special occasion, I look back on the journey I have gone through and am moved beyond words."

Researcher Nguyen The Khoa shared his thoughts. He talked about his time writing plays during the resistance war, the works that were staged to serve the army and the people, and the years he participated in managing art troupes, writing articles, and writing critical theories. He tried his best to contribute to the overall development of the theater, but still felt a bit regretful because his health did not allow him to contribute more.
People's Artist Thu Huyen, Director of Hanoi Cheo Theatre, also expressed her honor to stand on the same stage with her predecessors. The artist believes that it is both a source of pride and a responsibility for the current generation of artists to constantly improve themselves, continue to contribute and enrich the value of national theatrical art. These confidences show the natural continuity between generations, inspiring the younger generation to love the profession more and be passionate about it.
People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, shared: “The Theatre Ancestor's Death Anniversary is an opportunity for artists to express their gratitude to their ancestors and predecessors who overcame prejudices to create a unique art form, contributing to enriching the national cultural identity, and at the same time thanking the audience for accompanying artists on the journey of preserving and developing revolutionary theatre. Honoring outstanding artists from the period 1975-2025 on this occasion has a special meaning, because it is a recognition for the generation of senior artists and encouragement for young artists who are nurturing the flame of creativity and achieving many outstanding achievements.”
