Set the time for the 2026 World Cup draw

Although the full 48 teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have not yet been determined, the International Football Federation (FIFA) has already set the date for the group draw.

According to sources from TUDN'Mexico and Sport Illustrated posted on July 30, the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony will be held by FIFA in Las Vegas (USA) on December 5.

FIFA's choice of Las Vegas as the venue to decide the fate of the 48 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup is a real surprise, as the city has no plans to host matches at the biggest football festival on the planet next year.

But it is likely that the choice of Las Vegas was due to historical factors as this city was the venue for the 1994 World Cup draw.

Currently, only 13 teams have been confirmed for the 2026 World Cup. They are Japan, South Korea, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Australia (Asia); the US, Canada and Mexico (host); 3 South American teams including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador; and New Zealand (Oceania).

According to FIFA's schedule, as of December 5, the 2026 World Cup has basically only determined 42 participating teams. The remaining 6 teams will have to wait until March 2026 to be determined. These are the 4 winning teams from the European play-offs, and the 2 winning teams from the inter-zone play-offs.

At the 2026 World Cup draw on December 5, 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of 4 teams each. This is the first World Cup in history to have 48 teams participating and will be held in three countries: the US, Canada and Mexico.
