[Photo] Many dykes in Bac Ninh were eroded after the circulation of storm No. 11
The circulation of storm No. 11 (Matmo) has forced 153 hamlets and residential groups in 20 communes and wards with 15,000 households in Bac Ninh to evacuate and become isolated. After the water receded, the sections of dikes that were encroached by floodwaters were severely damaged. People, functional units and local authorities are making efforts to overcome the problem.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province has declared an emergency situation for 27 dike incidents in the area due to the impact of storm No. 11.
According to statistics from the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, floods after storm Matmo caused 83 dike incidents, the most in Bac Ninh: 66, Hanoi : 9, Thai Nguyen: 8. Incidents in Bac Ninh were mainly landslides, erosion; dykes; water leaks and overflows.
Bac Ninh Department of Agriculture and Environment said that more than 19km of Cau and Thuong rivers had to be built up to 0.3-1m high to prevent overflow; 350m of dyke was eroded, 29km of dyke was infiltrated and leaked during the flood after storm Matmo.
On the afternoon of October 15, the flood level of Cau River and Thuong River in Bac Ninh had dropped below the first alarm level; but some roads into Bac Ninh province were still flooded. Xuan Cam commune stadium (Bac Ninh) is still submerged in water.
On the way to Hop Thinh commune center, floodwaters destroyed part of the road. The authorities had to fence it off with corrugated iron to ensure the safety of people traveling. The 4km long dike on the left side of the bridge had to be built to prevent overflow. In many places, the dike surface was low, so people had to build sacks of earth more than a meter high to prevent floodwater from overflowing into the village. The house along the dike in Hop Thinh commune was devastated after the flood receded. In hamlet 1, Da Hoi village, the dike leading into the village was severely damaged by floodwaters.
More than 80m of dike, which is also the entrance to Da Hoi village, was completely damaged. The concrete road surface more than 3m wide was broken while the dike was washed away by flood. The inter-village road in Da Hoi was damaged. Bac Ninh province also recorded the above situation on many inter-village and intra-field roads. The house at the beginning of hamlet 1, Da Hoi village was destroyed by flood water.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested localities and relevant units to urgently deploy response plans according to the "4 on-the-spot" motto to proactively handle, mobilize materials, human resources, and means to reinforce and promptly repair dike sections affected by floods.
