Indonesian newspaper recalls sad memories of home team against Vietnam women's team

"It is not easy to get through the group stage when both the Vietnamese and Thai women's teams have quality squads," CNN Indonesia expressed before the opening match of the Indonesian women's team against Thailand in Group A of the AFF Cup 2025 taking place at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ) at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon (August 6).

According to an Indonesian newspaper, coach Joko Susilo's team has the task of changing the image of the archipelago team at the AFF Cup 2025 despite having to face the two strongest opponents of the tournament right from the group stage.

At the 2019 AFF Cup, the Indonesian women's team suffered a 0-7 defeat against the Vietnamese women's team. At the 2022 AFF Cup, the team from the archipelago also suffered a heavy defeat against Thailand with a score of 0-4.

However, that was not a record defeat for the Indonesian women's team in the international arena, when they lost to the Australian women's team with a score of 0-18 in the 2022 Asian Cup qualifiers.

In September 2024, during a training trip in Japan, the Indonesian women's team also lost to Urawa Reds Club and also lost with a "humiliating" score of 1-18.

At the AFF Cup 2025, the Indonesian women's team hopes to improve their performance by calling up three naturalized players of Dutch origin, Isa Warps, Estella Loupattij and Noa Leatomu, to strengthen the squad's quality.
