14 consecutive earthquakes in Quang Ngai, the strongest 4.9 on the Richter scale

Within 24 hours, a total of 14 consecutive earthquakes occurred in Quang Ngai province, according to information from the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences early this morning, October 6.

Yesterday, October 5, in Quang Ngai province, there were 10 earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 2.6 to 4.3 on the Richter scale, concentrated in Mang But commune (Kon Plong district, former Kon Tum province) in Quang Ngai province.

Updated to early this morning, October 6, 4 more earthquakes continued to appear in Mang But and Mang Ri communes (both Quang Ngai province). Of which, the most notable was the 4.9 Richter magnitude earthquake at 1:28:42 ( Hanoi time) on October 6, at coordinates 14.871 degrees North latitude - 108.13 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1km. This is the strongest earthquake in a series of 14 earthquakes, classified as a level 1 natural disaster risk.

Other minor tremors, measuring 2.6-3 on the Richter scale, did not cause damage, but were felt by people in the highlands. Experts said the seismic activity occurred along the Tra My-Kon Tum fault zone, an area that has been recorded to have a high frequency of earthquakes in recent years.

The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center is continuing to monitor possible future earthquakes on October 6 and assess aftershocks to promptly provide warning information to the public.
