Ca Mau announces the end of the first monkeypox outbreak

On March 12, the Department of Health of Ca Mau province announced the end of the monkeypox outbreak in Ca Mau city.

Previously, on February 28, male patient CVB (36 years old, residing in Dinh Binh commune, Ca Mau city) had test results from the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City positive for monkeypox.

From March 4 to 10, the patient was discharged from the hospital and quarantined at home without any more blisters, and his health was normal. At the same time, 6 people who drank with Mr. B returned to Ho Chi Minh City and the Eastern provinces.

The Ca Mau Province Center for Disease Control has notified the provinces to coordinate. Currently, the health of these 6 people is completely normal.

The mother and younger brother of patient B residing in Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district were instructed by the commune health station to self-monitor.

Up to this point, in Dinh Binh commune, Ca Mau city, no new monkeypox cases have been recorded after 21 days from the patient's onset.

Previously, the male CVB patient had symptoms that began appearing on February 19, such as burning pain in the penis and pustules. The patient went to a private clinic for examination and treatment.

On February 22, the patient had a large number of pustules and pus-filled blisters scattered on the face, neck, arms, hands, feet, and legs... After that, the patient went to Ca Mau General Hospital for examination and was advised to go to Can Tho City Dermatology Hospital for examination.

Here, the patient was diagnosed with suspected monkeypox and later tested positive for monkeypox.

Afterwards, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province issued an urgent dispatch directing relevant agencies and localities to strengthen prevention and control of monkeypox in the province, not allowing the disease to spread.
