Changing the purpose of use of more than 37 hectares of protective forest to build coastal roads

On February 27, information from the People's Committee of Quang Tri province said that Acting Chairman of the People's Committee Ha Sy Dong has just signed a decision on converting the purpose of forest use to implement the Coastal Road project connecting the East - West Economic Corridor, Quang Tri province - phase 1 (Coastal Road).

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province decided to convert the purpose of using more than 37.8 hectares of forest to other purposes to implement the project. Of which, the planted forest area of ​​more than 37.2 hectares is planned for protection forest; the natural forest area of ​​more than 0.6 hectares is planned for protection forest. The Prime Minister has approved the policy of converting the purpose of using the forest for the area of ​​protection forest in Document No. 211/TTg-NN dated March 31, 2024.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong assigned relevant departments and branches to coordinate with agencies and localities to closely inspect and monitor the conversion of forest use purposes to other purposes in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring the correct scope and boundaries of the forest area converted for other purposes; implementing replacement forest planting and updating forest developments for the area converted for other purposes to implement the above project...

The Coastal Road Project was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province for the feasibility study report on the investment and construction project in December 2021 with a total length of more than 54.9 km (phase 1 investment is 48.2 km), including 2 sections.

Section 1 is more than 42 km long, starting point at the border of Quang Binh - Quang Tri province, ending point at km 42+162 (south of Cua Viet bridge). This section is in phase 1 of investment with a length of more than 36 km, the section through Cua Tung bridge area and the section through Cua Viet bridge area have not been invested. Section 2 is more than 12.2 km long, the starting point connects with the axis road along the Southeast Economic Zone, the ending point connects with National Highway 1, km 759 through Dong Ha city.

The project has a total investment of 2,060 billion VND, invested by the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project implementation progress is from 2021 - 2026, divided into 4 packages passing through Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong districts and Dong Ha city. The project started on April 29, 2022, and contractors are currently implementing the construction.
